True income equality is dangerous, yes. The motives for certain kinds of work over others becomes lost, and market demand becomes meaningless as any surplus in profit simply gets distributed to everyone else. However, extreme income inequality is also dangerous, as it spurs a two-tiered citizen hierarchy in which it becomes impossible to move to the higher class (Mexico, modern Russia, increasingly the USA, etc). Nearly every crime can be traced to income inequality.
