I'd say with the next generation. Maybe 20 years left before it's a shade of what it is now.

barring some legal issues, it'll be a slow decline, at best. 50 years, minimum, probably double that. it'll keep changing over that time, though, to stay as safe (and as interesting) as they can manage.

The CTE business is likely to get worse the more we know about it. It largely depends on how effectively it can be mitigated(early signs aren't great). The NFL, of course, is an extremely conservative institution that was and still is trying to downplay the extent of the problem, which will probably make things worse than they need to be, strictly speaking.

Agreed. At the end of the day, all sports carry risk. But some more than others and ones like football are just so dangerous. But many won't care or will convince themselves it's not that bad. It's so huge right now (somehow) so while it may start shrinking, it'll be a slow decline.

Enrollment in school teams will likely decline in some areas soon.

It's because they started attaching causes every other goddamn season. I thought the point of watching the NFL was to get away from the shirty reality.

Do we really need to be reminded about how horrible a disease is every commercial break?

I wouldn't want my kids to take up football. Don't want them to die.

It won't. If college teams don't have a bigger show to play toward, that will die off also. Also the Super Bowl is annually one of the biggest events on television, it's huge for beer and snack companies, and brings in a lot of revenue from advertising and whatnot.

Oh definitely not. And while I think hockey's cool, I don't think I'd want them in that either, though lower levels do limit contact I think. Also it's expensive and time consuming but um, that's beside the point.
