Over the past few weeks I have been noticing my mail box lid open after the mailman had already delivered the mail. I checked the integrity of the lid and the box and for the life of me I cannot find a reason for it to be coming open.

One day last week, I asked the mail carrier if she knew how to properly shut the mail box lid and after she implied that she did in fact know how to properly shut the mail box lid, I asked for a demonstration. She was quite rude about it and drove to her next stop; my neighbors house. I was able to observe her properly shutting his mail box lid so I was back to square one.

I believe this to be a neighborly affair as I do not have any other enemies other than the people who live on my street. I don't know which one it is, but will report my findings when I catch them; both on here, and to the authorities.

I am looking for a camera on the cheap right this minute. I'm going to mount it on my tree that is adjacent to the mail box, provided I can find one within my price range. My brother-in-law said he might be able to loan me one of his but right now he's in UP Michigan and won't be back for a few weeks. Not sure I want to let this thief continue to peruse through my mail for that long.

They have a Doberman stationed in their front yard, and their backyard surrounded by a 6 foot high privacy fence. It would be very difficult to pull that off.

Don't report it to the local cops. Report it to the postal inspector. Set up a camera aimed at your mailbox.

The post office was of little help when I initiated my investigation. They asked if I noticed any mail missing. I don't know what is coming in the mail aside from utility bills and magazines. And from what I can tell, those have been left alone.

You mean a P.O. Box? They insert the mail through crude slots located in the backs of the boxes. It takes a keen eye and steady focus to sort the envelopes so they fall into the correct box. I already have trust issues as it is.

Nope. I mean post mounted box that has a lock on it. It's got a little flap that can be opened to put mail in, but non-children can't get their grubby hands in it to pull stuff out.
