I wish I got to do that with my last cat instead of coming home to find him dead outside from some kind of poisoning. The saying about time healing wounds is actually true. You'll never get over it of course, but it'll come to a point where you can live with it. When I moved to Atlanta I made the decision to leave him in South Carolina because he was just too old to be uprooted, and had lived in the same place for going on those 16 years at the time. We were going to visit my mom during the eclipse but less than a week before we were going to be there, he was gone. Lean on each other for support, I know it's a tough thing to deal with.
