McGregor fans betting on him pushed his odds up way past where they otherwise would have likely been, thus making Mayweather the smart money bet. The real issue with your post is the idea of betting all of your money. That's a recipe to becoming a completely broke gambler. The top professional gamblers in the world likely don't risk more than say 5% of their gambling funds on a single event, and that might be pushing it when it comes to risk. There are all kinds of anomalies and crazy things that can happen that could cause you to lose a bet you thought you'd never lose. Professional gamblers understand this and bet small enough relative to their portfolio size to make large drawdowns far less likely.
