So...Skyrim with less magic?

I dunno.

Edit: also tbh probably not a thing but still interesting to speculate on

There's actually been a rumor that this is going to be a thing. This and another game called Starfield (which supporters of the rumor claim Bethesda 'lightly teased' by presenting their logo with a starry background at E3 this year.)

EDIT: Had I read the article before posting, I'd have seen that it already states what I said.

I wonder if this would be set during the events of the books or way earlier? Like it could be used to explore the early Targaryen dynasty and all of that.

I'm banking on the Doom of Valyria being one of the five prospective spinoff pitches. I'm banking on at least two more of those being things hardcore fans really want to see. I'm curious what Bethesda Game Studios, if it's them, would do in that regard. Maybe something set during the time period of the original Azor Ahai, the Long Night, etc

The most obvious interesting things:
- Robert's Rebellion
- Long Night
- Doom of Valyria
- Aegon conquering Westeros

But most of these have problems. We already know everything important about Robert's Rebellion, the Doom of Valyria is meant to be mysterious, and Aegon's conquest is sort of unimportant. I guess the Long Night could work.

I am feeling pretty confident at least one of those writing teams is hoping to break open the enigma of the Doom. Full stop. Aegon's Conquest feels like something some other team is probably pitching. We know that Robert's Rebellion will not be one of the prequel ideas, but I feel like it's too limited in scope for an open world game. Like, by far.

I don't know if you can do the Doom in an open world game. You'd either have to limit your open world to Valyria or you'd have to set your open world in Essos, which people are less invested in than Westeros.
