- There was no time for emergency services in the area to respond, witnesses said

Six members of a family have drowned in Houston after their van was swept away by currents in the Hurricane Harvey floodwaters in the deadliest single incident since the storm began.

Devy Saldivar, 16; and her brothers and sister Dominic, 14; Xavier, 8; and Daisy, 6, as well as their great-grandparents, Manuel, 83, and Belia, 81, all drowned after their van hit floodwater.

The driver - the children's great-uncle - was able to escape, but the van sank too quickly for the victims to be rescued, KHOU 11 reported

As of 3pm CT, the children's grandmother, Virginia Saldivar, was awaiting rescue.

'If anyone has a boat that can come rescue us on Talton St please come,' she posted on Facebook. 'This is getting so scary with the water rising.'

Adriana Saldivar replied: 'We gave the helicopter people your address they will be looking at roofs and open space.'

A GoFundMe account set up to help the family of the dead children was posted to Virginia Saldivar's page.

I've been following the storm on CNN the last few days, and it went from "only 2 people dead, not so bad" to "worst storm ever, people keep dying" within like 24 hours. it took a day to find most of the corpses.

because evacuating a hurricane isn't as simple as getting up and leaving. There are a lot of pros and cons to weigh which isn't easy considering the nature of unpredictable hurricanes.
