I've never heard of that. That's fucking brutal. If your insurance company wants to charge someone for an accident you are not at fault for, it should be the person at fault.

insurance companies will already hike your rates for accidents that aren't your fault, so this is just a logical extension of that

Not my insurance company, granted I live in Alberta. Hell here an accident that is not your fault won't even show up on your drivers abstract.

The only way that happens is if the other driver has no insurance and you have to use your own to cover their fuck up, but then you can sue the driver. Otherwise if they're at fault their insurance covers it and yours shouldn't go up since it wasn't used. The 2 accidents I've been in weren't my fault, the other drivers insurance covered me both times and mine never went up as a result.
