Take Hong Kong for example. It's probably a democracy there but the rest of China is still almost as shitty as North Korea. How are they so fucking messed up? Why not just get along with the rest of the world? I know they love consumer goods and trades from Japan and America so why be so hard at each other's throat? Someone make sense of it to me please.

most of the world is authoritarian. it's not weird, but it's definitely not something to want to turn to. we have something special here in the west, and it's a shame fascist type thinking is on the rise here and in central and eastern europe

You have to realize that the effects from the Chinese Civil War and the Cultural Revolution wasn't that far off and the PRC is actually a relatively new country(not country as in the course of the entire Chinese history). Another thing is that the Communist Party is shit, and almost everyone can agree with me on this. The government seems to want to make enemies with a new country every week and is heavily authoritarian.

China has a huge social and pop culture that displays democracy that mirrors western countries, yet at the very core of it's government is still communism. Looks like the major cities wants to progress.

Have you ever been there? For the most part, besides Beijing's pollution, most cities and heavy tourist areas are no different than something like modern day LA while NK is barely out of the 50s.

Oh you mean the government. Yeah, the government is completely at odds with the actual population. They still pretend they're communist even when the actual economy is more capitalist than most of Europe. They have absurdly strict media laws that citizens really don't give a shit about and are really hard to enforce anyway. So yeah, the government is the absolute worst part.
