Shit is the easiest shit to learn compared to other shit like being a lawyer, doctor, engineer, accounting, writer, some sort of director or producer, social work, any laborious job, etc etc etc.

IT focuses more on experience than any degree or cert as well.

That's entry level stuff. You can move up into bigger and better things.

how do you learn?

Learn your basic computer skills. It's literally things like troubleshooting to make sure hardware and software works. Know how to use all of our modern technology which most of you guys already do and learn how to work behind it. Like everyone knows how to use a phone but when shit fucks up and freezes you gotta know what to do how to fix it. Most people still freak out when things don't work the way they only know.

Help Desk is entry level but still hard to get into without experience. You're crazy if you think IT is restricted to just being Help Desk.

Then get replaced by a cloud service that the company simply calls up when things go wrong instead.

They'd still need IT staff for users and to manage the reachability to those cloud services.

Everyone shouldn't do the same thing.

Only being semi facetious, since the general idea is actually poignant, which is that everyone has different motivations and weightings.

Yeah, but overall they're employing less at their one operation than who would be employed at all those individual companies they now serve.

You don't really need a degree. Certs are a better way to do it, imo.

If your degree isn't helping you learn the skills you need to get something like an MCSE or CCNA, maybe. An IT degree combined with certs like those is a pretty strong background for a job out of college. You just can't rest on your laurels just because you have the degree. You can never really rest on your laurels in this field. You have to keep learning and adapting.

*Nods*

Even with just certs, you gotta keep your knowledge up to date and your certs active. I really wish I had started studying for Cisco certs when I was 17 or 18. I'd probably have a number of CCIE certs by now. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life back then, though.

Intern! Work in the tech department at Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart! Apply for a tech support job answering phones. Yes it SUCKS but that's how you get in.
