There's no way I'd ever pay rent to someone I was dating.

I'd say she doesn't think the relationship will last, so is protecting herself. If they do get married at some point then that would change things.

Cheap rent means he can save more and means she isn't overburdened. It definitely isn't a romantic option though.

There's no way I'd ever pay rent to someone I was dating.

How come? I'd think if you were living with an SO then contributing to the housing costs would be common sense.

I'd have no problem contributing in a scenario where we're both on equal footing. Like we're renting an apartment together. But if she's the one on the mortgage then she's seeing all the gains and I can be out on my ass immediately if the relationship goes south.

If my GF had a house and I lived with her and we weren't married, i would pay her half the mortgage. Life isn't free.

Gf and I live together. Mortgage is in my name. I pay that, and she pays for utilities and food.
