Serbu’s daughter reportedly told her mother over Memorial Day weekend in 2016 that Sierra sexually assaulted her on two separate occasions several years prior — when she was just six years old.

Police said Serbu often talked to friends and other witnesses about wanting to kill the 18-year-old. A friend of Serbu’s urged her to bring it to the police instead of taking things into her own hands, but it appears the mother had been planning the attack for months.

stupid. her daughter lost her mom now. all cause she couldn't just let the cops handle it. also, she killed someone on the word of a child. that's fucked up. the guy never had a trial. we don't even know if he actually did it

Unfortunately, this also means that the most solid lead for authorities to determine if the accused actually did the crime is dead with him.

A straight admission is even more damning than an accusation from the proposed victim. The general public don't realize just how often that's the outcome to an investigation. The vengeful are often more concerned with the possibility of the accused escaping punishment, no matter how slim that chance is.

Now this mother has been labeled as a convicted murderer of a teen, her mentally impaired brother died from the confrontation, her husband will have to raise their emotionally troubled daughter alone, and the public won't ever know if the accused really committed the crime in the first place which makes the mother look worse. If the daughter was sexually traumatized, now she was not only victimized by the attacks, she lost her mother to them.

That's a common conflict of pursuing what we believe is justified vigilantism: the general public may not be on your side after it's carried out.

Because the rape happened several years prior. What are the police supposed to here? It'll turn into a he said, she said case.

You do know old rape cases/reports do get solved right ?, the person usually has a history or that counts as establishing a history of rape.

Bottom line is the police should have been who the mother went too not killing the person years after the act.

Those solved cases happen few and far between. There are still many more that are left unresolved even when they're reported the same month.

This is a child telling a parent years after the molestation happened, why wait that long before telling mom or dad ?, a grown woman being raped usually does not wait so long to report a rape.

Wish I was on the jury. She'd have at least one mistrial.

No way am I going to punish a mother for doing what any half decent patent should do. If someone harmed my little sister, mom or little cousins they wouldn't recognize then when I was through and jail would be a small concern.
