so you bought into marketing hype without doing actual research, this is why they have giant marketing budgets

What the hell kind of stupid logic is this? It's consumers' fault for buying into marketing hype and then being disappointed by a game, and then it's also consumers fault for not trusting a company enough when they say they've fixed things? Fuck outta here with that.

Let's be fair; I think both parties are sort of at fault. The gamer side wants completely unobtainable goals. They want a game that is fresh and new, but also the same experience as their favorite games. They want no micro-transactions and free content, but also want the game to keep being supported for years. They want games to be for a select few, but then complain when series die because no one plays them.

On the other hand you have a business, masquerading as an art form. They tell you how they want to tell a story, and create positive experiences for the player. But that's not true. They want your money. It's understandable, because they are a business and a business that doesn't make money quickly ends, but the dance is a bit insulting. They spend huge amounts of money pumping up fans and telling us that the game is going to be the best thing ever, only to release what realistically one studio can release. Then you have fans who complain every time a game is released, but call everything without a AAA worthy commercial indie shovel-ware.

Both sides are feeding each other and no matter how much either side tries to make it seem like they are rising above the cycle, they are both thriving in their symbiosis. The worst part is that people pretend this is new because they remember enjoying old games, but this sort of shit has been going on pretty much as long as video games have been a thing.

I can't speak for all gamers but I personally just want to see some minor advancements in video games over time. I remember back when Destiny came out I had been a little disenchanted with the new console gen in this regard so far (other than Titanfall) and I had high hopes for Destiny that it would truly be a step forward in videogames, but after playing it some I honestly felt like it was almost a step back in a lot of regards and that was a huge part of the disappointment for me. While Titanfall was a pretty generic fps in structure along with having no campaign, it had incorporated a lot of interesting gameplay mechanics together in really smooth ways and looked beautiful and I guess I kind of let that shape my expectations for Destiny too. Then when Destiny finally came out it was 720 30fps with the same laggy controls and a pretty disappointing open world aspect with crappy AI enemies, a rushed half-finished story that made no sense, grindy content that was still necessary long after it had stopped being fun, a so-so social aspect, and a lot of obvious content cut out of it so it could be repackaged and sold to us again as DLC. I guess my point is that I believe that I don't want completely unobtainable goals, whatever those may be, but I felt and still feel like this gen hasn't made hardly any meaningful forward progress anywhere in games from the previous gen, and Destiny (and partly Fallout 4) has been the primary game that represents this lack of advancement. I know Destiny tried and I don't want to fault it too much, but with some good came a lot of bad with that game so it's hard to give it it's due credit too.

That's my point. You went in hyped.

Like I said, though, even if you didn't fit any of the things I pointed out, you have to admit that there were a ton of people out there making those arguments. Like I said, I'm not saying that one party is more at fault. I'm pointing out that gamers have unreasonable expectations and demands, businesses care more about money than their customers, the businesses put a ton of money into advertisements and selling hype, and gamers eat it up and then complain when it doesn't live up to the aforementioned demands.

I'm not denying that both parties are at fault. My original comment was just telling virus that him trying to blame only the consumers is stupid.

lmfao you thought a shooter from Bungie would be a huge step for shooters rather than an enjoyable shooter romp

are you insane

I feel like people who were disappointed in this game are teenagers who haven't been let down by video games time and time again and haven't learned how to manage their expectations.

obviously it is your fault if you were expecting a huge step in video games, rather than a watered down shooter version of Diablo

If that was the case it was stupid to direct it at me, since I was arguing that both parties share the blame.

Not biting the TC anymore, some people seem to have valid points but they seem to think I'm trolling in favor of Destiny.

Because your entire defense is "you hate Destiny because it's popular!!!!" and the only time you tried to refute my points was when you told me to "research more" on a game I played on day 1.

Maybe you should actually address the points instead of blowing them off in a trollish manner and people won't call you a shill.

Destiny 1 was a fairly good shooter. But it lost a lot of points for me:

No story. If something is going to be repetitive and Grindy. At least give me some flash to be able to ignore that.

Lack of base content. Base Destiny had barely anything to do. The fan base said that the game doesn't actually start until you've completed the main story, but by the time you did there was 1 raid and 1Nightfall a week. It wasn't until The Taken King that it felt like it had the content of another game.

"Tweaks" to weapons. Balancing is usually ok. But they went and made all the good Exotics useless. The idea was to have one special gun that stood out. But they just changed them to all be shit.

Bullet sponge bosses that one shot you.

Way too little focus on PvE after the base game.

Buggy raids.

Worst of all, locking existing content behind the DLC paywall. Removing the little content the base game had and forcing you to buy the DLC was a very shitty practice.

So cause of all that, I'm holding off on D2. It would have to be a pretty big improvement to make me want to get it. If reviews are favourable I may make the purchase though.

Hahaha, my bad, man. I don't know what I was thinking. I don't think we are disagreeing all that much as we are focusing on different aspects.
