...It was actually a ton of fun. It isn't super deep, but it has some interesting strategy and also makes some interesting songs along the way.

I may have preordered a base set.

So is the only reason to get additional packs is because you personally like the songs in them? Other than the effects cards it doesn't seem like there's much involved in deckbuilding.

I think there's more than it looks like initially. You could focus on certain colors, volume levels, etc.

The cards have a color representing what part of the song it is and a number from 1-3 (how loud it is?) The board has 5 spots: yellow/red, red, red/blue, blue, blue/green.

You get to do 2 actions per turn. Usually this is playing two cards.You have to put down a card that matches color and meets or beats the number currently on that spot. You get bonus points if the color you put down wasn't currently represented at all on any of the spaces, and bonus points if every space on the board is a card you placed. The other thing you can do is hit a button on the side of the board that makes a random number get chosen, and all of your opponent's cards with that number get removed and they lose points for each card removed.

There's also effects cards that are colorless and can be played anywhere. These can be used to take advantage of the color bonus right after, plus all of them have some sort of extra effect when played like play another card or get points for certain things. And wild cards can be played anywhere while also counting as being the actual color(s) on the space.
