I was hired as a kitchen helper at a local restaurant.
I had my first shift yesterday, and at the end, my boss gave me a menu and told me to memorize a few key items on it. is it normal practice for bosses to expect their employees to do this when they only get ~12 hours a week at minimum wage? To clarify, I meant to say "restaurant job." Servers do that too, and sometimes it's even more important with wine pairings and shit.
And yeah, if you consider looking over the menu every couple hours in your precious down time to be "work," you're not going to be growing.
