Storm trajectory is unpredictable and they always need to be hyped up so people actually take precautions.

No it's nowhere as bad as the hurricanes from the mid 2000s. Only people that needed to evacuate were people in the Keys.

I'm in Orlando and there is a ton of flooding, trees are falling and the lights are out even though the hurricane hasn't reached its peak here yet. Looks like Miami, Naples and Key West were also affected.

If that isn't serious I don't know what is.

It's not Katrina bad, but I think Harvey made people very alert about what a hurricane can do. People seem to forget and ignore them until it's too late.

No, but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been.

Florida got lucky that it weakened so much over Cuba.

If it had remained that 700 mile 185 mph winds beast that it remained for days, that could have been very catastrophic.

Florida dodged a bullet, and it was thanks to Cuba.

But hurricanes are hard to predict, no one could have known it would weaken so much. It's definitely better to be safe than sorry when it comes to unpredictable forces of nature.

When you look at what it did to the islands like Barbuda, there is no such thing as overhyping it. It was incredibly destructive, and anyone in its path could very well have been in danger.

Some people are completely ridiculous.

Just because the storm's trajectory changed and you were lucky and suffered tropical storm to category 1 winds doesn't mean a lot of people didn't get completely ****ed.

Just look up images and videos of the Florida keys and cities along with the western coast of Florida, like Naples.

lmao @ people saying it was overhyped. This thing was a complete monster. I'm lucky I only had to go through tropical storm and category 1 winds and rain and that I was more inland.

Thankfully no as far as the U.S impact goes but it easily could've been. We're starting to get its effects here and we'll get the full force of whatever is left tonight (projected tropical storm with 55-60 mph winds)

Nope, it rarely is. I didn't even lose power or internet, though there are plenty of people who definitely did. It ended up being a Category two while it was near Miami.

Florida didnt get the worst part of it at that and unlike earlier expectations it DIDNT get a direct hit on Miami.

Barbuda and Saint Martin still got hit baaaadd though.

And at its worst the entire storm was as large as the main part of my COUNTRY...

Earliest projections from the Weather Institute were that it would take the path that it ended up taking. Around Thursday they changed their mind and followed the more pessimistic new station projections that it would curve up early and smash right through all of Florida while it was still a cat five. Then on Saturday they changed their minds again. Hurricane tracking requires a lot of guesswork since there's no way to currently track them more accurately.
