They aren't going to ship them separately. That would entirely defeat the point of the free shipping to begin with.

Unless it's changed recently, they used to automatically split up packages that would be shipped at separate times and charge you accordingly for each one. So... I don't think this would work.

I tried this once just to see if it would work (I wanted both items anyway). It said the other item was "processing and couldn't be canceled". Or something like that.
