Talking to this girl on POF. We exchange a few messages, she laughs, so I go for the date.

"I want to take you out on a date. You can try to explain that movie to me :)"

About a day later, I still haven't heard back even though she's been online.

I'm starting to think I didn't actually ask her out and didn't really leave her with anything to say. Should I message her again and try to make more concrete plans, such as "I'm busy the next few days, but I'd like to see you Tuesday if you're free!"

If it's somebody on the internet who you've never met, who cares? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Don't say anything back until she does. I also try to avoid exclamation marks and faces.

No, she's not interested or she'd be excited to reply

If someone wants to be with you, they make time for you. She'd be on the other end thinking "omg he just said he wants to take me on a date. I better say something witty!" and not "omg he wants to date... but I'll just wait for... idk"

It's just frustrating. I don't meet a lot of people and online dating is horrific. I finally found someone with similar interests who actually responded and it died just like that.

That was my thought on a moment of clarity earlier. She could say something about when she's free or ask what plan I had in mind. Why waste time talking on a dating website if you're going to bail when the guy asks you out?

That happened to me a bunch on dating sites too. I figured they just wanted some attention from a cute guy but didn't really know what they wanted out of the site. Not worth your time for someone who just wants attention

Thanks for the honest replies everyone. I'm going to chalk this up as a combination of my awkwardness and small of genuine interest.

I'll get it right someday

She was probably never interested in dating you and was only replying just to pass the time. Once you asked her out she knew her fun time had nowhere else to go.

Don't worry too much about it. It's fairly typical for dating sites.
