After months of frustrating delays, lawmakers were poised Thursday to approve a two-year budget that creates new taxes on cellphone bills and vacation homes, along with hiking tax rates on hospitals and hotel rooms.

[...]

The cellphone tax would be 49 cents per month, which is the same rate as Massachusetts, Democrats said. Many rank-and-file lawmakers were caught off guard when they heard about the new idea, but negotiators said it was important to the state’s revenue stream because it is a widespread tax that would affect about 3 million cellphones and will be charged every month.

Brought to you by the fine lawmakers at Dewey, Screwem, and Howe! Once again instead of trying to cut spending -- particularly when it comes to our overly generous welfare policies which encourage people to not work -- we're going to attempt to balance a budget by once more ratcheting up taxes on the handful of people still too stubborn to leave the state.

A 49 cent per month tax is enough to make you move out of the state? Moving would probably cost you more than the tax.

Also, 3,576,452 is a handful?

Remember when medieval Europe put up a mud tax and the people revolted ushering in the era of no taxation without representation?

Keep in mind that CT pays every tax imaginable. Most states have some of our taxes, but I'm not sure *any* has all of them. Even NY and NJ, for instance, don't have car taxes. Hell, last year Dannel Malloy was floating around the idea of a window tax!
