I thought the old one was on the right because of how unprofessional it looks.
I mean, tons of white boxes because the text wasn't sitting visibly with the messier background, shakier color scheme, and the model's pose is just way less appealing. It's less friendly, less expressive, and you can't even tell what she's doing. Left isn't masterful, but this isn't an improvement at all, and I would never use a graphic designer if that were in their portfolio.

He changed the content too which is... lol? We have plenty of "Believe in your dreams!" edutainment, not everything needs to be that way. The old way sells because people want it apparently.

Other than the low budget quality of the right one, it's the "right" one. Growing up being forcefed shit about being pretty all the time probably gives at least some girls a complex.

Y'all missed the point. The point wasn't graphic design or make the magazine look better. It was based on the content that they were spilling. Instead of focusing on looks and boyfriends, it focuses on education and advancing your career. The graphic designer was saying what the magazine should be about, not what it looks like.

The one on the left looks done like a professional and like something you'd find crammed into a supermarket checkout aisle. The one on the right looks like something you'd find in the doctors office or dentist waiting room and looks pretty cruddy on the whole.

On a visual level the one on the right is simply uninteresting and actually a bit ugly. The cut white boxes under those text boxes make it look like they were cut over the picture by someone who couldn't even be bothered to round the edges off to make it look neat. The picture itself is also pretty bad for a magazine cover. It's just fine for an article but on the cover of a magazine it looks ugly and doesn't catch much interest.

But, for the big one, what's actually printed on it. Both are complete garbage. However the one on the left is just garbage in the 'traditional' sense of stuff you'd see in Cosmo while the one on the right, well, seems like it's the sort of thing where you'd read an article that would remind you of just how important your bi-annual dentist visit is. Not to mention it looks pretty self-gratifying; as if it's trying to say 'because I say it, it's right'. I'd say it kind of looks closer to those homestyle type magazines where it would contain several ways to spice up a Thanksgiving with wooden clothes pins that inevitably fail and make you realize just how much like Martha Steward you're not if I had to compare it to a supermarket magazine.

So, yea, the one on the left looks better while the one on the right looks boring at best

Yes, yes, beauty is on the inside and people need to accept themselves for who they are and magazines shouldnt give girls beauty complexes and Han Solo dies at the end. I have heard it so many times its getting annoying.

Left looks professional and people are more likely to buy it, its a business and thats why they wont stop. To the graphic designer and others like him i say "Suck it up"

While I completely agree. If he claims to be a graphic designer he shouldn't have released that looking like that. Like it would have been easy af to just remove her from the background and imitate the first one with a white background, balancing the color of the girl as she's on the warmer side (which doesn't look as clean).

It looking shitty is heavily distracting from the message. Obviously, just look at this topic. Making it look good/professional will go a long way.

I see your point and I agree. His point would have come across better if he actually made the magazine better. I feel the only mistake he did was changing the background. I feel both should be in the magazine. Give beauty tips as well as education tips. People try to swing one way or the other too much. They should just meet in the middle.

Wake up hungry - mainly because it is about eating healthy and waking up right. It works for both

Also, let me be frank. This person is a graphics designer. They have ****all to do with what's actually inside the magazine. Imagine if you wanted to make a magazine about dog health care and your graphics designer decided that they would rather make a cover detailing Trump scandals. How long do you think the graphic artist would remain on the payroll?

I get what you're saying but I respectfully disagree with the idea. Magazines of this nature are designed for entertainment and not education. The reason for that is because entertainment sells better then educational material. Take video games for instance. Video games would be better suited for educational purposes over entertainment. However very few people would want to play tax break simulator over call of duty.

Preteen girls don't give a shit about the messages on the right. Believe me, I teach grades 7 to 12. The left one sells better because that's what they want. Most people, male or female, aren't interested in wholesome content, it bores them.

You know who else can organise a magazine cover correctly? An eighth grader.

The one on the right looks far superior in that it will sell way less copies. Also, graphic designers fit the text and visuals, they can't change the content of the text because they disagree with it.

I completely agree in principle and the one on the right is the way it should be but a) That simply doesn't sell as well and b) the message is slightly undercut by the 'appalled graphic designer' trying to make their point with some equally appalling design work in their example.
