You know, back in the day, I never appreciated some of these songs form this album, until I watched the film.

It blows my mind that a band that is known for being such a laid-back stoner band, could make a something like this.
~Truly a masterpiece.

Once a friend of mine confessed that he were about to watch that film for the 64th time(maybe 74th?). At that moment I never watched the movie, but he "borrowed" me a copy, and then I watched the film almost everyday, for about two months.

I had philosophical debates about that film with all of my friends, and I watch it every time I se it on tv.

Tldr:
I love that film.

It's almost a demonishly good film.

It nails so many feelings so well.
It's about the only real representation of Male depression I can even find in the last 30 years or so.

...But not only that.
The representation of Britains destruction post-World Wars.
So many things in this album and film.

All from just a little stoner band.

I'm not a huge fan of the film (not a fan of Tommy either), but I do love The Trial at the end and I do enjoy the album. Not the best Pink Floyd album, but it's pretty solid.

I'd watch the movie with someone, but never on on my own again

I'd say stay away from watching it. It's so good, it'll bring out the worst in you.
((I mean that in the best way))

..And you know what, I still haven't seen Tommy.
But I do like The Who.

The Wall isn't their best album but saying it sucks is a huge stretch imo. And besides TC is also talking about the experience of the movie, how beautifully the video and music mesh and create a different experience than either the video or the album could offer on their own.

I've always wondered if the concept of "the wall" was about the screen they used to play behind in the early days. It's like Waters was trying to rebuild that so he could make it come down on his own terms. The first time was pretty disastrous with Syd and all that.

Ya, the whole rock opera thing, was never my thing.
All of which was before my time, only slightly, but still, before my time.

I am surprised, David Bowie never made one.
But then again, I suppose The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, was and he just kept it to the music. Funny though because I'd think he was the most likely to do it out of anyone.

Never listened to it. The praise it gets makes me less inclined to listen to it, too. For some reason I avoid things that are universally loved.

Don't limit yourself sometimes the praise is worth it.
I know what you mean. But this one is the real thing.

Edit: But this more about the film than the Album.

The Wall is fantastic, I'm glad people here are praising it, because CE usually shits on it.

The movie is a little bit outdated though, esp. during the animated parts.

Dated for sure, but I think the animated bits, are some of the best parts.
Maybe they lack the, FPS, in today's terms, but other than that they are fantastic.
First, a beasts head, then turning into a fist, then a hammer, all just to goose step passed pillared hallways.

I lament that those crucial first ten words aren't in here, but the animation is amazing. IMO

Kinda' funny isn't it. but it is true. They are a well balanced band when you think of it.

Woops, I didn't actually watch it. I thought it was that song with the marching Nazi squads. Can't remember the name. Empty Spaces? But off the top of my head it has lyrics like this:

What shall we use to fill the empty spaces?
Where we used to talk?
...
Shall we buy a new guitar
Shall we drive a big, powerful car
Shall we get into fights
Leave the lights on, drop bombs
Do tours of the east
Contract diseases
Bury bones, break up homes
Send flowers by phone
...
How shall I complete the wall?
