Poll of the day, and all that. What are your thoughts?

I'm sure you have better things to do, but I'm just gunna rant about mine for the moment, because why not? If you aren't interested, then you can just move on.

I believe things are getting generally better, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us.

Technology and entertainment are wonderful things, and have helped improve our lives for the most part. But our technology is a double-bladed sword that cuts both ways. It's also made us lazier, more disconnected, more greedy, more insatiable, and it is butchering our human relationships.

But if I had to choose only ONE aspect of humanity I absolutely cannot stand....it would be our breeding habits.

War sucks. Pain sucks. Homelessness, starvation, disease....those are all horrible horrible things.

But our breeding habits are where it all starts, and humanity sucks at moderating how much we breed...and (more importantly) WHO we breed with.

I truly believe that something went wrong with our evolution, that made us instinctively prioritize certain traits in a mate....that simply aren't applicable anymore. It might have worked wonderfully thousands of years ago...but a lot has changed since then.

Women don't need to have massive hips to successfully bear children anymore. And men don't need to be tall and muscular to protect her from sabretooth tiger attacks anymore. When you look at the modern dating scene....we are still behaving like cavemen.......and all that is really doing is giving birth to future criminals.

There are a lot of people swimming in the sea of Lust.......who honestly havent considered whether or not their mate would actually make a good PARENT.

Sure, they might be an awesome and exciting LOVER......but do you really want this person raising your kid?

Ooops, too late now! She's pregnant. You gunna abort, or are you just gunna hope for the best?

Failed relationships, failed marriages, broken homes, parentless children. Kids with daddy issues. Mommy issues. No positive male role model. No positive female role model. Kids gets raised by the internet and movies. Becomes a borderline sociopath.

Humanity is a mess, because we don't think about the longterm. We only think about the now.

Swipe right.

I'd also like to add "political correctness" as a huge problem facing society.

In my original message, I was going to say "borderline autistic sociopath" at the end there. Before it would post, Gamefaqs warned me that using the word "autistic" in any way could "trigger" some people.

Aye.

Those SJW tears.

Even if they aren't offended, they'll pretend they're offended if they know it could get someone in trouble.

to a degree I agree, but more so on how much we breed. used to amuse me I had a friend who would bitch and gripe about this or that going on in the world and most of the time I could boil it down to, if our population wasn't so damn large it wouldn't be a big deal.

part of this is how much we breed, but its also helped greatly by how hard we do things to circumvent things meant to act as population control. read in a science book about someone talking about how if it wasn't for war disease and murder, our population would swell so large half the population would starve to death because their simply wouldn't be enough food for all us. and he deemed those things necessary evils because of that.

Some people genuinely believe that overpopulation is a myth. But they also havent gone skydiving before.

I went skydiving last summer....and it was very eye-opening. When I was coming down through the sky (and I live in a relatively rural area) the sky smelled and tasted....funky. Stuff we're putting in the atmosphere. Stuff that factories and vehicles emit. Ammonia, smoke, sulfur, and a dozen other things I couldn't quite detect, but clearly manmade. I didn't realize how gross it smelled up there. We are ruining this planet.

Quality of life is more important than quantity. But we don't seem to care. People just follow their base instincts and breed without questioning for even a second if they'd actually make a good parent, and if they are truly prepared to love and support it.

and then some actually think its their religious duty to breed, just because the bible said we should populate the earth. well I think that mission was accomplished long ago, time to hold back some.

Right now?

First it was the SJW stuff, now it's the SJW outrage.

You realize how fabricated it all is when you see the dislike ratio on any SJW video. It's often 1000:1.

That one thousandth person with multiple other mental issues sure is a huge problem.

By all means they suck but it's just another meaningless fad, and at the end of the day I just hate fads.

And now people are coming out as global warming deniers because PC culture is horrible. I'm not saying anyone here, just how most people like to think.

If I had to put my finger on one overriding problem, especially in the U.S. (where I live), I would say passive aggression. In our Facebook-as-Big-Brother culture, there is no acceptable social outlet for anger or displeasure. Everybody is forced to play nice and be polite not because they genuinely want to, but because they fear punishment, being dragged on the Internet, etc. The end result is that no one is what they seem, and everybody is bottling things up that should be expressed openly. ... That is no way to live, IMO.

Damn...that's some pretty heavy stuff right there.

We are all pretending to be people we aren't, because we're afraid of becoming social outcasts, which is extremely easy with our internet culture.

Mess up just ONCE....and it goes viral and will stay with you forever.

I hate that much of society has lost its work ethic and ambition. Instead of trying to build something, everybody wants it handed to them. In particular, it's going to ensure that America loses its place in the world to more ambitious nations.

A lot of issues -- including SJWism and political correctness -- come from that loss of an edge.

GreenKnight127 posted...

The issue isn't inherently a matter of breeding, but instead upbringing. While there will be variations in intelligence and intelligent people having kids with other intelligent people might lead to better outcomes, that still leaves the rest of society which -- unless you're going with a GACII solution -- will still exist, have kids, etc. Sure, there's a small portion of society you really can't do much with because they simply lack the mental capacity, but most people can be far greater than they currently are and, for the most part, are held back by a lack of work ethic and confidence. That's why the answer is upbringing rather than just breeding.

Well, the things you *think* are priorities aren't necessarily priorities (ie, things people are actually attracted to, since muscles don't seem to appeal to most women otherwise more guys would be buff) but, generally speaking, desirable traits have kinda separated from useful qualities even before considering it on a sociological level.

You're kinda missing the fact that it's TWO people making shit life choices. If a woman chooses to have a child with a man who goes to prison, that's on BOTH of them. Low-quality people tend to wind up with low-quality people, mostly because neither knows any better because they usually come from a low-quality background. That's why a good upbringing is so important.

Long-running problems don't stop being problems simply because they've endured. Slavery, for instance, ran longer than political correctness and yet -- like prior systems, including feudal serfdom -- it was a horrible thing.

Except no, this isn't a recent invention. The idea of free time is a new invention, as is the modern idea of happiness. Even the idea of the weekend (or the 5-day workweek) is a newer invention.
