Looks like only the loyal old timers are still here.

Perhaps gamefaqs just reflects the population of gamers really well. Most are 90s kids because this is the period after the popularization of the internet, but before the advent of social media.

That's exactly it. There's little (immediately recognizable) incentive to join now when you're connected to "everybody" through facebook and the standard linked social media sites, but back when gamefaqs was at it's most popular, it was the most convenient venue for a gaming community.

No? We have about ten or so prior polls that all have the average age increasing. Seems like pretty solid evidence.

thats pretty funny. it has just been us the whole time, the same group of kids that are now figuring out life -- getting more and more bitter and trollier as the years have passed.

I remember finding this site and being shocked that I could get cheat codes for free instead of being subscribed to a magazine. Also wasting my parents' printer ink by printing out 100 page walkthroughs for easy games.

I used to be such a huge Mortal Kombat nerd.

Are kids not playing video games anymore or are they only playing games for which a FAQ would be of little help?

I think it is a difference in type of gamers.

Don't really need to hunt down a website like this for Farmville and COD.

That just means the target demographic changed. Says nothing about retention rate.

And demographic has a lot to do with the community. The way the site is designed doesn't have a lot of room for memes or other garbage which is why the younger folk go somewhere else

I mean can you find proof that more than 50% of the people who were here in 1999 are still here? I would very surprised if you could. It would be pretty amazing honestly

I think traditional FAQs simply fell by the wayside with video walkthroughs and social media groups being the more visual and maybe more practical options. Not that people aren't still using them quite a bit, but they aren't the main option anymore.

YouTube really changed the game for a lot of things, no pun intended. Visual medium helps a great deal.

Most people just watch people play games while yelling really loud now.

An age range of 2 has dropped in favour of an age range of 3.... sure!
