I love dogs, they are pretty much my favorite thing ever

How does anyone have a dog alone? It just seems like so much work having something living dependent on you. Food, water, making sure it doesn't seem sick, vets, grooming, training, walking... making sure you never leave it home alone too long. Dogs are so cool but how can anyone handle all that by themselves with a full time job?

Train it to do the housework while you're at work and cook your meals that or just get a partner.

Yeah dogs take some work but you get great companionship back from them

Some breeds are require less maintenance than others

now that i Live in alaska, I wanted to get a wolf hybrid/husky or something. but I can't take care of a dog in my tiny apartment. if I lived in a house I would get a whole pack of dogs and I would train them to walk beside me without a lease on walks. people that saw us would be amazed. it would be like a roaming pack of wolves

had a jack Russell/corgi mix that I did the research on (was looking for a jack Russell puppy), found a breeder, and paid for myself (though my dad took me). for 11 years we had many adventures with ups and downs along the way, but cancer took her from me last year

if you want a dog, then get a dog. just do the homework and research on whichever breed suits you best. and sure, buying from a breeder is usually smart (and can be pretty expensive), but give adoption a chance, take a look at your local spca/shelter, you just might find the right "fit" for you, or it may find you (it happened to me)

Get a dog if you want a little change and challenge to your life. Maybe some decent memories too.

Get a cat if you like bitching at something that is disgusting and controls your life.

Get a bird if you like crazy.

Anything that is in a glass inclosure is a waste of space. There's a reason you don't want it free roaming your home. This includes fish.

Yeah, maybe if I could get a real lazy dog who didn't bark and listened well I could kind of manage it but as soon as I'd get a dog that was ill-behaved I don't know how I'd be able to handle that. I know how to train but that's a lot of stress to have a dog that could get itself or someone else in danger or something like that...

Aw, that's nice. That's another thing that must be so devastating, being so connected to an animal and having it die. Sorry that happened : ( I do want one but I just don't know how to tell if I'd be able to handle it and I'm afraid what would happen if I couldn't

Lol yeah I definitely don't want spiders or fish or snakes. I could potentially like a rat, I think they're kind of cute but don't know if that would be wortth it because it wouldn't be the same kind of bond

Feed twice a day, change the water once a day (more during the summer since they get thirsty), pay attention to changes in their behavior, take them to the vet twice a year, bath and nail trim once every 3 months, training only applies to the first 6 months you have them, walk them once a day (more if you don't have a fenced in yard). Not all that difficult.

Granted I have a Greyhound which basically is an overgrown cat as far as mood. Something like a Dalmatian or a Husky I could understand having problems with, since they want to play CONSTANTLY.

Yeah. It can definitely sound like not that much, and I guess some people are better at handling it than others. But that's like hours every day when you include the walking. I guess it's just hard for me to imagine adjusting to it because there's nothing besides work and eating that I absolutely have to do every day and I'm already pretty tired so imagining hours of extra responsibility... Idk, maybe someday I can get one especially if I can work less than 40 hours a week or somehow move in with someone who also wants a dog so we can share the responsibility
