I'll take a reverse trap or girl lead over nearly any male anime lead since most are garbage at best. There are some good ones at least, but so many just use the same 1-2 character types for their male lead and with so many even looking alike it's hard to tell one loser apart from another

Even a lot of good ones sometimes have awful male leads. The amount of truly good male protagonists in anime seems really low

Part of the problem is for a lot of them there's always another male character who is way better or cooler or whatever.

Clearly you don't watch enough anime that are popular with fujos.

Kuroko's Basketball and Ace of Diamond were pretty huge with fujoshi and the MCs of both aren't the best guys in the series!

Not at all. I like him, but I thought most people considered Chris or Miyuki the best character? Hell most of you seemed to like Sawamura less than Furuya when it was on so I thought I was the only one here who liked him most out of the pitchers.

It's more that most just aren't very good in general. There are obviously exceptions, but almost every shounen series has one or in some cases many male characters better than the main one. I think most people agree that damn near every harem MC is garbage in general even without any guys in their series to compare to as well. In some shounen series they aren't even as good as the female lead or in not so uncommon situations both suck (looking at you Naruto)

XFD did they really do a TL note for bitch in this show.

There are no male characters in Re:Zero better than Subaru.

Well from my experience it's pretty close to the truth. A lot of male leads are lucky to even be decent at the end of the day. Hell it can even apply to Japanese games too. Maybe P5 just broke me because the cast wasn't very impressive :(

Poking my head into the "shounen males not being best male character in their show" and ignoring those that are harems (so need another male main character)...

Some like Edward Elric best of FMA, I'll ask someone regarding GTO if they consider Onizuka himself best...

Having watched a chunk of it, Kaze no Stigma is one I'd count where I like protag most out of most characters.

Nagisa was lots of fun early on. I actually liked him less later in the series. Always a shame when a character gets development that gets rid of their best traits. ;_;

I think it's a fairly common opinion that Joker is the best male character in Persona 5. Actually, he might be the most popular character period? Think he won a Japanese poll at least.

Anyway, if you want to watch series with good male leads, just seek them out. It's not all that hard. Nagisa's not the best guy in AssClass (Korosensei's by far the most popular), but he's pretty good IMO.

There's a point in the series where he decides to be manlier and stop looking like a girl. It was terrible. Him not deciding to become an assassin for a profession was sad too.

Well for P5 everybody in general was disappointing really compared to 4. I don't like Joker as much as Morgana even if Joker is the coolest of the guys in his Metaverse outfit. Only fujoshi shipping him and Akechi would rank either high. The girls were basically equally disappointing. I liked the game, but the cast was a devastating blow after the years I spent being excited for it to be made.

Beated a couple more AssClass episodes. Koro Sensei is pretty amusing and a ton of the class are still nobodies I don't know the names of. I wouldn't be surprised if the doujins for this series are all Nagisa x Karma because the only other one I could see getting any is Miss Bitch

I rank Joker high. I always like the Persona MCs a lot. Something about them is just awesome.

Morgana is great aside from that stupid drama part. Ryuji was pretty bad which is a shame since his outfit is cool. Yusuke is amusing and Joker looks cool and actually gets to do some neat stuff. Makoto is easily the best of the P5 girls, but her competition is laughable there since two of the others barely exist and I don't care about/for the third. None of them really compare to Kanji and even Teddie is practically better than the entire P5 cast

Teddie is great in P4. It's only in the extra games they water him down to a one joke/note character. Hell I'd even say Nanako and Dojima were better than most of P5's playable cast. Maybe if they had some goddamn interaction off their cellphones they could've been a fun cast. Fuck whoever decided on that and fire them imo

I'm actually gonna agree with swordz on this one. I love it, but P5 has a pretty weak playable cast compared to 4. Both are still standard setting for the genre though, so it's like comparing vanilla bean vs classic.

You disagree with the girls being mediocre and two barely existing? The only two they put any work into are Makoto and Futaba. Haru feels like she wasn't even really meant to be anything other than a background nobody even if her design is nice and Ann could've literally left after the second dungeon and virtually nothing would have changed. She faded into "just there" territory so fast.

Anyways it's pretty funny how in AssClass the non-failure students are ugly as hell. Like it's not even just the guys because the girls are ugly too.

Beated 9 episodes (felt like more) and I'm spent for the night. I like how a new character was added when I still don't know more than a few of the characters in the class. Still fighting off this damn cold after probably 8 days now I think. Shouldn't last much longer at least. I don't think I've stayed up past midnight since I got it.

AssClass S1 beated. Think I'd give it an 8/10. It's pretty good as a comedy and as a battle shounen even though it still doesn't feel very battle-like this far in. Most of the cast don't really get to do anything, but none of them are terrible either so I guess it's fine. So far I'd probably say Koro Sensei, Karasuma and Karma are the best characters.

I'll probably start S2 tomorrow. Guess my anime spirit isn't completely gone if I beated 20 something episodes in 2 days

Wow, that episode of Princess Principal sure did end like a cliffhanger finale to an adaptation that couldn't get more than one cour. Odd considering neither of those are the case.
