How does trading work in the Virtual Console versions? Using 3DS local wireless?

Not having an arbitrary encounter glitch like Trainer Fly in Gen 2 is half the reason I haven't picked either of these up yet (the other being Crystal)

Anyone ever used a Dratini in GSC? I'm thinking about grabbing the one at Game Corner for my last team slot. But Dragonite doesn't evolve until level 55 and I'm pretty sure I'll have all of Kanto cleared by then

Playing these games again has really highlighted how much the series has changed, for better or for worse

It's not bad in Crystal since you can easily train the one you get at the Dragon Shrine that comes with Extremespeed

Is my Onix sterile? It's grown 30 levels being in the daycare with Ditto and still no action. Is there a way two compatible pokemon won't breed?

Hmm, if I knew he wouldn't flake out, I might ask my brother to get Silver so I can get starters+version exclusives, plus use him as a middle-man to get gen 1 exclusives from my completed Red

Coin Case ACE is super easy in these games (assuming that you're playing the English version).

That's true, though I've never seen an example of somebody using it to trigger an encounter with an arbitrary pokemon, and I don't have the drive to figure out how to make that happen. Maybe I'll do some more research after work. It's clearly possible after all, and likely I just haven't looked hard enough for an example.

You can also hatch an egg into anything, or transmute a Pokemon into a different one. I also saw people talking about modifying the roaming Pokemon.

Wild encounters can surely be done, it's just a question of whether anyone wants to do that over any other methods.

It is possible for two Pokemon with compatible egg groups to not breed in GSC. It happens when both parents have the same Defense IV and either the same Special IV or the Special IVs are exactly 8 apart. Try talking to the Pokemon outside. If it says "It's brimming with energy." that means they won't produce any eggs.
