Kohls sometimes. I signed up for their store magazine thing and occasionally get 30% off coupons, but that's the only time I'll buy stuff there...Shit's too expensive otherwise.

Usually go to h&m for shirts, bulk socks/boxers on amazon, and then salvation army for sweaters/dress clothes/whatever. Shoes I get from Vans since I was sponsored by them a few years ago and get like 75% off no matter what.

I don't really buy clothes very often, though. I need some jeans right now, but they're like 40 dollars a pair..

edit - btw, why are they called pairs of jeans? cus we have two legs? does that mean the leg part is the jean, then what's the part that connects the two legs together?

I googled and found this:

But “pants” in the 16th century differed from today's jeans in that each leg was a separate garment, donned in succession and then belted together at the waist. Thus it made sense to call these “two-piece britches” a “pair” of pants, and the usage stuck long after pants were unified.

I don't clothes shop very often and I don't really have a go to place to look. I just keep an eye out for things that fit my picky tastes and seem durable.

For instance right now I'm in the hunt for a light jacket for fall. The one I bought from Macy's ten years ago has finally faded.

I get most of my clothes from Target. I might get a t-shirt from Walmart, I am not very picky about t-shirts.

Work clothes I usually like to go a little more high-end, like Macy's or Sears.

I've occasionally picked up a t-shirt from Wal-Mart. Kohl's I've picked up some blazers on clearance (including some favorite blazer, which got sun-damaged due to my carelessness... wish I could repair it somehow or dye it), some jeans on clearance, and... well, they run an okay number of clearances, but usually most of their stuff is overpriced compared to other retailers.

Nah...not at Target either. Maybe some Tees, Socks and Undies, but nothing I would wear 'fashionably'.

Depending on where you live (pretty much where any Mall is at) why don't you shop at H&M, Zara or Macys? Or places like Burlington Coat Factory, Marshall's and TJ Maxx, where they usually have discounted Name Brand stuff?

Macy's is overpriced garbage. H&M is for teens, and I wouldn't have liked their relatively shallow selection even when I was a teen. Never heard of Zara.

Those places all deal with factory-seconds and shit that couldn't be sold elsewhere, usually because there are quality issues. Most of the clothing I've bought from TJ Maxx/Marshall's (which are both owned by the same parent company) has begun to fall apart after an unacceptably short period of time. Even if you're getting the name at times, you're not getting the quality. Burlington I can't recall ever finding anything I like. However, in both cases, since they deal in factory-seconds and overstocks, the size selection for any given item is going to be limited and -- if you notice a problem with a mark or loose threading -- you're not going to be able find another, better version on the shelf half the time.

However, I've bought decorations from both places. Burlington often has some neat statues -- I picked up a silver leopard and a silver octopus -- and, at times, similar wall art to Bed, Bath, and Beyond but at a lower price.

- Macy's is far from 'overpriced'...you're thinking about stores like Bloomington's, Saks, Lord&Taylor, etc. Please visit their website sometimes during sales.
- H&M is not for teens at all...usually find some quality Tees, Sweaters and Thermals there.
- Never heard of Zara? Well, the owner/founder (some Spanish guy) just became the richest guy in the world:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4359795/zara-founder-amancio-ortega-net-worth-wealth/

But basically, it's pretty much a slightly more expensive/high end H&M.

No, it's more like overstock items moreso than unsellable items. Again, many stuff I've found in Marshall/TJ Maxx (I know there are owned by the same company) and BCF was also found in whatever Brand Name stores at the same time (like alot of Calvin Klein products).

It's very overpriced for what they're offering, which usually looks no better than what you might find at Sear's yet -- near as I can recall -- the prices were higher (not that Sear's seems to have great deals or quality). While I once found a very nice pair of sandals at Sear's for an incredible price (best sandals I ever owned, despite being I assume was a store brand; never found anything near as nice again), I can't recall ever finding a real bargain at Macy's.

And saying something is cheaper than Lord&Taylor isn't much of an enticement. The last time I stopped in Lord&Tayler I picked up this pair of steampunk-looking cufflinks -- which looked almost like costume jewelry -- and saw that the price tag listed at as close to $200. Near as I could tell, they didn't even seem to be made of a precious metal although, even if they had, I've picked up silver cufflinks for maybe a quarter of that.

Then he's a very well-kept secret. I googled their locations, I guess the closest is in the Stamford mall (and there are only 2 in the state?) but I don't recall ever seeing it back when I worked in Stamford and occasionally visited the mall for lunch, etc.

At any rate, despite his wealth overtaking Bill Gates (probably because Bill keeps giving his money away), his brand is nowhere near as ubiquitous as Gate's so it's unsurprising that I haven't heard of him.

Just scroll thru those prices...do they seem 'expensive' to you? And on top of that, you can still get discounts on sale items sometimes. I've gotten plenty of stuff at normal expensive MSRP for like $4.99-$30.00 bucks.

About 75% of my t-shirts are from Banana Republic. So are most of my shorts (though I have a few from old navy). My jeans are from Guess.

I might have some socks I got at Walmart. Non-dress socks are actually a bit tricky to buy for me, as I have a minor rubber allergy and some socks cause me to break out.

Never liked GAP, although when I was a kid my folks would get stuff from me there. AE and Old Navy I've never really liked.

While I mentioned getting some t-shirts from Wal-Mart, I should note that I also once bought a pair of khakis there which had some serious quality issues. I've looked at their shoes and sandals at times, but nothing looked decent.

I haven't bought much at Target, but I did get a bunch of underwear on clearance there. I should have just bought everything they had at the time because, other than the fact most of them are starting to wear (can't recall how long I've had them), they have been pretty decent underwear. It was a brand called Evolve, which I hadn't heard of before but I guess I should probably look up on Amazon or something.

That's why I try to get stuff on clearance. In general, I don't like the thought of wearing used clothing plus a really good clearance can often wind up being cheaper than buying used. For instance, I got a bunch of pairs of jeans on clearance from Kohl's once for $5 or $6 each. I'm not sure I could beat that even buying thrift.

Pretty much (at least here in Manhattan)...there's one in Midtown/Times Square, Downdown/Wall Street and another in SoHo (South of Houston, kinda like Midway btw Midtown and Downdown) and I've been to one in Jersey City.

Ok, you picked out one item, but they do have a actual suit set for sale for around $30-$40 bucks...that's practically Goodwill/Salvation Army prices.

And yea, some of the sporting goods stuff at Macy's are expensive there for some reason. I usually go to Marshalls/TJ/BCF for cheap sporting goods stuff (shorts, gym bags, sometime sneakers, etc).

But for fashionable sweaters, jeans, button down shirts and coats, you can usually find a good deal at Macy's, again, esp. during Holiday sales. I've gotten plenty of high end name brand stuff (Calvin Klein, Guess?, Lucky Brand, etc) for good deals when I really hunt the clearance/sales racks. It's really about being a smart shopper.
