Makes me think whether anything I am watching is entering its third season this year? I do not think so...

At least some of the American shows I am watching already got extended for a few more years...

i kinda wanted to have a small discussion about shows getting cancelled with you, but your lack of detail is making me walk away in disgust.

I knew I was forgetting something...

Last year, Penny Dreadful. Mainly the way the ending was cut short, really hurt. As it was completely clear from the writing of the finale that it had been cut short, instead of ending where it was supposed to end.

This year, Dark Matter. Better ratings than most of Syfy's shows, but because it was an outside aqcuisition for Syfy, it had to have much better ratings than other Syfy shows to make a profit and thus was cancelled. Just now I read the weekslong campaign to revive it somewhere else had ended in failure, prompting me to make this topic.

Just caught up on Rebels in time for Season 4, that did not get stealth cancelled when I wasn't looking was it?

I have it sitting in my Netflix queue, it looks like the kind of show I would love. I liked Grimm and Once Upon a Time the first few seasons, before they ran out of material and the writing went downhill. Penny Dreadful at least knew to stop once they said what they wanted to.

Uhm, nope. That was very obvious saving face and not wanting to offend anyone when they made those statements. The writing of season 3 made it very clear they were going for more, but got the cancellation message towards the end of the season.

I mean, even the creators admit they ended it on their terms:

LOGAN: I can absolutely confirm it is really over, the end, that’s all she wrote. The whole idea to have this be the end of the series applies to all of the characters not just for Vanessa Ives and I felt the ending was for Malcolm and Ethan was Ethan got the father that he wanted and Sir Malcolm got the family he needed and together they came to a nice thing of stasis.

Some poems are meant to be haikus and some are meant to be sonnets and some are meant to be enormous epics, and this was always meant to be a sonnet. It was something of grace and beauty. I think we’ve been able to achieve that in a really masterful way with the artists that I work with, everyone’s work. I think this is the right ending so for me to revisit that world again would seem inorganic, I think.

From what I remember, saving face. As in, they started writing towards the ending once they got the cancellation message halfway through the season.

I might be misremembering, but it would definitely explain the pacing of season 3.

I've had a lot of shows I actively watched get canceled one or two seasons in, which is why I usually don't watch shows when they come out any more.
