Bland silent protagonist with equally bland motivations

The concept of the antibody that rises to fight the infection when the world calls for it is well-told and exemplified in a character that evolves and conforms to the world around him. Link's silence allows players to project intent and emotion onto him from time to time, and the overall sense of legend and myth surrounding the Legend of Zelda is best served by a character unhindered by the shackles of worldly and pedantic writing.

I've never really been able to view Link as an avatar for the player, but Zelda games are kind of fun and he gets a lot of cool weapons and gadgets.

I've never seen him as a much of an avatar despite naming him after myself for...a long time. Still a basic hero type that can be as badass as necessary but can also act as a relatable doormat to some pushy or super nice NPCs. And mischievous enough to not be too heroic, if you take everything he can do as canon.

Great simple design, if a bit too generic elvish. But the style of the various artists that drew him all look pretty great to me from Miyamoto's original to Toon Link.

Still a silent protag in a series light on story.

Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild added some depth to Link's character but he is and always has been a silent protagonist which takes away points for character ratings as far as I'm concerned.

I didn't like the character design when I first played OoT back in the day but it has certainly grown on me after all these years and has admittedly become iconic.

I still very much hate the fact that the character is insanely popular on this site and that it wins anything contest related. On that note, despite my immense love for Breath of the Wild, I'll always be sour against Link for making contests not as fun as they could potentially be.
