I don't think it should be nearly as "controversial" as people seem to be making it. I had the 2nd trial mostly figured out before the trial even started, but no idea on who did it. 3rd trial was the opposite where I had no idea on what happened but I had a suspicion on who done it. Where I thought it was going, and I think it would have been a little more interesting if someone else killed the first person, so that the culprit would be still be alive for chapters 4+ (because of the new rule). Now the group has to deal with someone who has murdered someone else, but lived due to a rule addition. Also, is this the first time in the series where the motive was really just "because I'm fucking crazy"? Usually after they explain themselves you feel sorry for them, and sometimes the group forgives them. You think because he's got the mystery talent, he fits the luckster/unluckter archtype, he's gonna be super relevant but nope. Ever since chapter 2 I think, Kokichi kept convincing Gonta to do stuff all the time, and they would pair up a lot too, so I figured he would either trick Gonta into being killed or be the killer at some point. So that plus people hyping chapter 4 being emotional (not just in this thread, I saw it a lot), I had that idea early on in the trial, but I had no clue on how it was done.
