anyway the Thunder at the very least gave everyone a reason to watch their games for at least one more year, thats all I can ask

also the Thunder were the only team to vote against the lottery reform

transience posted...
it's a one year power play to try to keep Russ. without the moves they probably just have the worst team in the league next year. with it, maybe the same! but I like that they went for it.

i love it! this is like when the lakers moved on dwight and nash, except that i only hate OKC for principles and not because of a blood feud!

I saw that. the changes were so minor that I can't believe 28 teams all agreed. it's like they shrugged and said "yeah, okay."

The tanking issue's root cause can't be fixed, so whatever they come up with is just some arbitrarily shuffling of how players enter the league.

So the new solution makes the worst teams try a little harder (in theory) and the bad-but-not-worst teams tank a bit more. I guess I don't see the difference - the 76ers and Magic might try harder while the Pistons try to blow a few more games. I feel like tanking is a bit overstated.

if I were the boss I'd just give every non-playoff team the same chance at getting a pick, and then any non-conference finalist the same chance at the next set of picks, and so on. I'd also suggest adding cap exceptions but that made people sad last time I mentioned it ;_;

As a Magic fan, we have not been tanking. We just really have been that bad

But yeah I agree that it should be flat chance across the board for all non playoff teams. Or fuck it, do it for the entire league with some sort of provision in place to stop people continuously getting lucky. Don't reward people for sucking though

I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but no one has ever accused the Magic of tanking.

In the post above mine Neon said it might make the Magic try harder which implies tanking. Was more responding to that, that we already were trying, we are just awful

Fans/media here were actually annoyed when we won our last game last year to bump us down a slot in lotto chances

I think tanking is overstated. Most of the players and management and ownership want to succeed as much as they possibly can. If you're a bad basketball player making good money, would you really want to play worse just so someone better can take your spot? Boston 2007 and Philly "The Process" are probably the obvious examples but I am sure I am missing some

i think there's a vast gap between players and front office here, but it's a matter of perspective - the best players generally want to win tonight, the best coaches want to win in the postseason, and GMs want to win championships someday. players don't tank, but coaches can rest players (tanking an individual game to ensure freshness in the postseason), and GMs can trade away players for picks (in hopes of getting good draft picks to maximize the odds of getting a superstar to win a ring).

When do we rename where we play Westbrook Arena?

I can not imagine the opening night crowd and how celebratory it's going to be for a team that lost in the first round last year
