Alucard188 09/28/17 12:57:57 PM #1:	TL;DR I posted a comment on a video for Shadow of War, and how I wasn't going to buy the game, because fuck WB. This guy is all like "Think of the poor developer, you selfish bastard." Me: Game looks pretty good, but I really can't get over the lootbox mechanic they've implemented in the game. Plus, Warner Bros is one of the worst publishers out there, so I'll not be giving them my money for this game. Him: But it's ok for games like Destiny or Breath of the Wild to have microtransactions in them? 2 games that have been praised for being just plain EXCELLENT games. Plus, what the hell has WB ever done to be spoken of in the same light as someone like EA? I have played many of their games and this is the only single-player one I have ever seen them release with micro's, plus they have made some pretty damn good games like Mad Max, the Injustice series, the Batman Arkham series, the Outlast series, Mortal Kombat, F.E.A.R and such, not exactly 'bad' games that got any bad press. Me: "But it's ok for games like Destiny or Breath of the Wild to have microtransactions in them?" These aren't mutually exclusive thoughts, mate. Microtransactions are a blight on the industry, and I refuse to pay into their schemes. Have you paid attention to anything that WB has done as of late, or at all? They don't make their games, they only publish them. The games they publish are by and large quality work, but they (the publisher) like to fill the games with as much shady and seedy video game work as possible: micro-transactions, pre-order culture, loot boxes now, etc. They knew about Arkham Knight's shitty run on PC before it was released, chose to release it anyways, chose to work on more DLC instead of fixing the game, then decided that the game wasn't worth fixing after all that. Warner Bros represents the worst of video game publishing culture, and why I don't want to give them any money. Him: Your free to spend your money on whatever floats your boat dude, or alternativly, to not spend your money. But to basically say "this game is made by WB therefore I won't buy it" isn't exactly fair thinking mate. Plus it won't make a blind bit of difference, the only thing that will is if people buy the game but not any of the micro's, that way WB will see that they make money on game-sales but none on the micro's, so they will stop spending money on implementing something that doesn't make them money, boycotting the game only does 1 thing, and that is hurt the devs, not the publishers, the publishers will get their money 1 way or another, it is the dev's whose jobs hinge on wether this game is successful or not, not the publishers, so paying for the standard version of the game and restraining yourself from buying micro's, like I will, is the best way to repay the devs for their work and send a message to WB. But, you do you. Me: See, it's not my job to support the developers. My job is to pay for what I want to buy. It's their job to entice me to spend money. If a developer has a quality product, I'll buy it. If I don't agree with something, I won't buy it on their terms. WB has done enough stupid shit to force me to not buy their games. No, it's not, it's your DUTY, as a decent gamer, to support a decent developer such as Monolith Studio's, a developer that, up to this date, has never made a bad game. I'm not telling you to spend your money on this if you don't want to, that is up to you. But don't take this stupid stance of "WB is publishing this game therefore I won't buy it", that is just pure nonsense, you should buy a game based on it's own merits, how it looks, how it plays, how it is recieved as a game, not based on who the publisher is, Maybe you don't agree with the marketing of this game or the whole micro's thing, ok, then buy the standard edition rather than all the other ones and just don't spend anything on the micro's, that's all you have to do to support the developer and send a message to the publisher. Monolith shouldn't have to suffer just cos you got beef with WB, that's not the right way to go about things mate. But like I said, it's your money and you don't have to buy the game, just don't take this silly stance and start judging what games you buy on their own merits rather than who is publishing them. Me: My "duty" as a gamer centers squarely around myself, and what I want out of gaming. I buy what I want, when I want it, based on actions and machinations around myself and the gaming industry. If I don't like a company, I don't deal with that company. I don't like Warner Bros., who just so happens to be publishing the game. Therefore, I'm not buying it. Sucks for the developer, but again, it's not my job to care about the developer. It's their job to entice me to spend money on their product. That's the publisher's job as well. Too bad the publisher's greed so readily fucked up how I perceive the game to be. I'm actually fine with the existence of micro-transactions, and they have never bothered me. Of course, a lot of people aren't, because they see it as the game industry carving out content that used to be free, only to sell it back to you. I don't like that part of it, but I'm fine with it otherwise. What I don't like is the rise of loot boxes, which is essentially unregulated gambling. Warner Bros decided to have your cake, and fuck it too, with the existence of both micro-transactions and loot boxes, which also happens to contain orcs you can buy for your army. This gets scummier when you find out that the game also contains an online mechanic similar to the online mechanic in MSGV, where you have an online base with orcs that can be assaulted by other players. There are also ranked leaderboards tied to this, which comes with the caveat of perma-death for your orcs. Your orcs - which you can pay for with your hard-earned money - can permanently die. This also means you can buy your way up the leaderboard, by purchasing higher-powered orcs that other people would have to grind for and capture naturally in the game. That had already soured me on the game, but then they decided to honour their fallen friend and co-worker by having a special character in game for him, with the caveat that you had to buy it. Oh, but they're donating more than half the proceeds to a charity! They're still making a profit off of a dead friend, and even had special fine print that limited these donations to specific US states, meaning that if you were an international player, they were keeping all of your money. This was gross, and I'm glad to hear that they caved on this practice. Still, all of this together means I'm not buying this game. Sorry that Monolith is tied to such an avarice studio, but WB Interactive can go fuck itself. Him: Why do you seem to have a problem with the fact that Monolith have created an optional multiplayer mode for SOW? I mean, your not getting the game so you won't be playing it, and even if you did get the game you don't have to partake in that mode either. Just cos you don't like that type of mode doesn't mean that everyone thinks the same way, it's there for people who want to play it, and those people shouldn't be denied that chance just cos you don't like that type of mode. Neither should Monolith/WB be slamed for creating a new mode that gives people extra reason to play the game. I'm getting a sense that you are a very selfish gamer, dude. Me: You seem to have misinterpreted my argument. I'm not arguing against extra modes to play a game - not in the slightest. What I am arguing against is creating an online economy and market place for a competitive, online PvP experience, that features real pay-to-win mechanics.
