Going to Indigo Plateau for Elite Four.

Ampharos Lv 48
Typhlosion Lv 42
Red Gyarados Lv 40

Rest is just HM trash

So far it seems like Ampharos is the most consistently useful Pokemon as he's actually bulky enough to last.

Because Johto has some pretty bad level balancing that includes trainers with sub-level-20 Pokemon right next to the city with the 7th gym. This fact makes G/S/C the absolutely most difficult Pokemon game to try and solo with only a couple of overleveled Pokemon... and that's not even taking Red the final boss into account at the end of the game.

TC, you should have definitely used a more varied team.

They made the level curve way better in HG/SS.
And HG/SS has a terrible level curve.
There are so many trainers with, like, one pokemon that's five levels lower than any of your team of 4. The level curve is bad, but there simply aren't very many trainers either. They usually don't even bother putting them in caves.

The wild Pokemon, yeah. There's still some decently-leveled trainers, and all of the gym leaders in Kanto (except Janine and Blue) use Pokemon in the 40's. Still, TC is going to need to do a ton of grinding in Victory Road or on the Elite Four if he wants to beat the game with just those three.

What really bugs me is that - I think aside from Blue, Red, and maybe Silver in Mt. Moon and Blaine? - none of the "important" Trainers in Kanto are even on par with the levels of the Elite Four, so up until those guys it's easy street.

I mean I guess it *kinda* makes sense in canon for the Leaders to not surpass the Elite Four really, and for an ex-Champion to be comparable to the current Elite Four, but I'd prefer a difficulty worthy of someone in the postgame of a Pokemon game even if it doesn't quite make much sense in canon.

Might be just me though.
