Everybody is gushing over this guy as if he's the second coming of color commentators but after watching several of his games, I just don't see it. He's constantly awkward in his delivery and when he goes into that mode where he guesses everything the offense is about to do....it's just embarrassing frankly.

Look, I think he has some potential as a broadcaster, but this is clearly a rookie effort from the guy and I don't understand all the high praise.

I thought he was pretty solid for a new announcer. He's definitely got the potential, he just needs experience.

Romo is doing fine so far. Not some prodigy at the role, but hes ok.

I will say Arod is the best thing to happen to sports commentating in a while. Pains me to say it as everyone hates him, but his approach and the subjects he talks into detail about has been great. You can tell that while his numbers are tainted, he put tons of time and effort into studying the game as well.

I haven't actually heard Romo on a broadcast yet, but I like that he's trying to do something different instead of just doing what everyone else does.

Simms is literally better though. I was pretty sad when I heard he was being replaced because of some hivemind twitter attack (correct me if I'm wrong), and surprised it was by someone who is in his first gig as a comentator. I didn't even know Romo was retired yet at the time.

This isn't really a knock on Romo though. He's not great now, but that's to be expected. I guess I'm in the minority on Simms though. I thought he was one of the best.

My favorite Simms moment was last year when someone ran a double reverse pass for a TD, and Simms said he saw that one coming.

should've pulled a Romo and told us it was about to happen before it happened instead of afterward and maybe you wouldn't have been replaced

this was just ONE WEEK

he did this every week as long as I can remember. I would always mute any game I had to listen to this buffoonery

Simms is an objectively bad announcer, but can be kind of entertaining in a trainwreck sort of way.

The real worst with no redeeming qualities is Collinsworth.

I feel like Nantz actually sounds interested and engaged when he's with romo vs simms

But there are times where romo is too excited and talks over nantz or interrupts him when its not really necessary. Things to work on

Your opinion is unpopular because it's objectively wrong.

Tony Romo is articulate and utilizes his NFL experience to forecast what's about to happen before it does. He did things like bash the Bears for letting four seconds run off the clock before calling time out. He actually speaks from the minds of the players. Who does that?

Sure, Romo may be inexperienced and that at times leads to awkwardness, but he is better at being insightful, articulate, and impartial than other quarterbacks that have been doing the same job for years. If that makes him a "horrible announcer" to you, then you have no taste and no business watching the NFL. A rookie is going to make rookie mistakes, even if that rookie is a first round talent.

Not agreeing with tc or anything but i thought most people would be screaming at the TV wondering why the bears let that happen

I was laughing, seeing as I'm a Packers fan.

But that was something that some rookie announcers would miss (by that I mean before the time out was called) or not handle as well as Romo did. He already has a high level of awareness that took Cris Collinsworth a couple of years to build.
