I'm a huge metal gear fan and is there any kind of a stereotype about the mgs fanbase? I've heard that there is, of the call of duty fanbase, whiny teenagers etc etc maybe that is true about the cod fanbase maybe it isn't. So what do you think of the mgs fanbase in general? What about the gran turismo fanbase my other favorite games series?

I'm indifferent toward it. Though I'm also not an MG player and I don't hang with its following.

MGS is probably my favorite series of all time, but the fan base is definetly a bit pretentious and know-it-all.

Also, most of the hardcore fanbase HATES Metal Gear Solid V, which breaks my heart because I think it's a masterpiece

I agree it's a masterpiece, probably my favorite game of all time. Maybe the hardcore fanbase hates it cause it might be the most different metal gear game kojima has ever made. It is a radical departure from what they're used to.

A lot are so far up themselves that if you have any criticism, "you just don't understand it." They then spiel on about how your opinion is wrong and such forth in a attempt to make themselves look better than you, while missing the point that people are not saying they don't understand it, but some of it is just stupid, and that is what is enjoyable/unlikable about it.

One or two you find out in the wild are okay but if you have a group this hivemind, circlejerk, echochamber thing starts to happen as they all try to prove how much more they understand the "complex themes" than everyone else.

oh so do you think most are kinda nerds? Or are you saying they think they are much smarter than your average gamer?

I'm saying they think they are smarter than non fans and others who point out the sillier aspects of the story because they take it more serious than they need to.

Two types of fans

1. Fans that love the gameplay, characters, voice acting, graphics, cinematics, and shooting stuff.
2. Fans that try to rationalize Kojima's crazy ideas and get deeper meaning from stupid parts of the story.

Terrible creator, terrible company, terrible games, terrible fans.

I love V to death but I do understand SOME of the complaints. the world does feel empty at times, and the story wasn't their best. and it is easy to tell that kojima didn't get to do all he wanted with the game due to KONAMI forcing him to go ahead and finish the game.

being in a fangroup on facebook though I can tell you its non stop theories/speculation and shit among the fanbase. and people arguing whats canon or not.

as i've always said MGS games are a conspiracy theorists wet dream.
