I used to work in power plants as a Steamfitter. It was damn good money especially if you travelled. I know people who have cleared a quarter million in a year basically living out of hotels.

I got a job as a facilities manager at a hospital. Now I'm responsible for understanding how all the non biomed equipment works in the facility (boilers, chillers, rtus, medvac, med air, med gas, water supply, steam systems, etc). It's a lot of stuff to learn but my background as a Steamfitter has given me a huge head start. My boss actually cut my on the job training time from 12 months to 3 months because he said he feels comfortable putting me on shift by myself a lot earlier than most people starting out.

Anyways, I actually really enjoy going to work for the first time in my life. I always used to think I was just a lazy person or something because I used to be miserable. The money is far from bad, I'll just never make $1,000 in a day again (which didn't really happen a ton before anyways). It's so nice actually working somewhere that appreciates you and wants to help you grow as an employee. Also it's nice knowing that I'm helping people now instead of helping coal companies that don't give a fuck about me.

If you're in a situation like mine where you can get a better job for slightly less money, do it.

I'm the same way. I ended up taking a job with lesser pay within my same company, but it includes a free apartment, a meal allowance, and a more flexible schedule. It makes life much more tolerable day by day.

Agreed. My last job, during busy weeks, I was making so much money, that I was paying over $1200/week in income taxes.

I got a new job, and those days are 100% over... But I am so much happier now.
