Created a character. Literally every option ends up looking sort of like Harry Potter. Picked the cane so I can look sophisticated, turns out the cane is also a whip sword. Unfortunately, my character's breasts don't compare to Ivy.

I got past the sewers (I think), found a Madman's Knowledge (which I apparently wasted by dicking around with the summoner bell) and got killed by a pikeman in a dark alley or something.

Im guessing these lanterns are kind of rare...? I only ever found the one.

Is it possible to kill those two werewolves on the bridge? They dont end up taking a lot of damage. Should I have done that before going forward?

Also whats that heavily armored dude near the first checkpoint guarding? Tried a molotov and it did crap, so Im hoping its something juicy. <_>

the lamposts are pretty rare for each level, but there are shortcuts that help you out.

and whenever you see a boss, you gain one or two insight, iirc.

and with at least one, you can level up in the Hunter's Dream

I can clear out the starting areas up to the sewers pretty painlessly. I'd like to think I'm competent.

An about leveling up, I'm at like, level 14 but only ever found one insight and never fought a boss. What did I do? >_<

Eat the knowledge to get insight, talk to the doll in the dream to level up in exchange for blood echoes. Really just keep exploring the game and explore. It's a great time once you get the hang of things.

If you found the wolves on the bridge, then you should have found a boss too. He's just a little past the two wolves. Either run past the wolves or try to aggro them one at a time. They hit really hard and attack nearly non-stop when they're facing you (get behind them).

I tried Dark Souls. So far I like Bloodborne better. I like the Lovecraftian, gothic horror theme more than medieval fantasy.

TC, go back to the bridge and either kill the werewolves, or run by them and run down the stairs on the left and into the house. At the bottom you can open up a shortcut back to the lamp. And, the first boss (optional, but you should do it) is at the end of that bridge after the werewolves.

Good luck!

PS.

The first mandatory boss is BRUTAL for how early you face him... there are a couple of tricks to defeating him tho, ask and I shall tell!

My first boss was the Cleric Beast on the bridge. You can run into Gasciogne or w/e his name is first but he's much more difficult, imo.

The easiest way of dealing with the initial part of the game is learning how to dodge and also how to parry attacks. Gasciogne is incredibly tough until you realize how easy he is to parry so I recommend that for killing him.

I recommend also simply following the fextra wiki or w/e to get all sidequests.

Use this: http://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Bloodborne+Wiki

For real. He was definitely the wake-up call for me.

I didnt start attempting to parry until the Blood Starved Beast (that ended being how I killed it my first playthrough). But I eventually became really good at it, and once you do, Papa G is ez peezy.

So I got up to the Cleric Beast. Think I almost got his pattern down. Gonna call it a night and try again tomorrow.

Found a path that leads to where I ended up dying the first time on the other end of the sewers. Lol, had I survived I would have ended up at the cleric beast anyway. >_> Also found a house with a sidequest(?). Idk.

Did manage to get new armor. Now instead of Harry Potter she looks like Anne Bonnie. Also the old guy who started this whole mess is missing from the Hunter's Dream.

Tbh all this talk about Hunters makes me crave Mega Man X9.

yes, you can agro one or run into the house kill the dudes in there and the beasts get stuck in the door. Then run and unlock the shortcut and go fight the cleric beast

As much as I love Dark Souls (the original), I gotta say the only reason I'd recommend someone to start there is if they're planning on playing through all of them. And that's only because once you play the later ones it's a lot harder to get into the original. But that's mostly just because the gameplay itself is inferior. I think the level design, enemies and overall atmosphere of the first is the best, but that doesn't always save it from being a pretty unforgiving experience at times.

So I managed to kill the cleric beast. Not any time for much else. Tomorrow I might farm for those new weapons at the shop before continuing.

Theres a nifty key for 10000 echoes. I take it that even if I farmed for it now, I wouldn't be ready for where it leads me?

Looking forward to this Father Gaston or whatever. But that will have to be another day.

You dont even technically need the key but you need to go through a side area which leads to one of the tougher early game bosses.

But you need to beat that boss anyways to access chalices which are needed to get some of the best runes available in the game

Thanks dudes.

Grinded souls to buy a kirkhammer. Didn't pay attention to the strength requirement lel. (I need 16, I'm at 11.) Bought a repeating pistol though.

Did some exploring. Found a tunnel with a giant pig. Gonna leave that alone for now. Found the elevator, hope the switch works later. >_> Ran into Father Geurochiman that you guys were talking about. Kicked my ass, but I did try parrying. Gonna have to practice that more. Still having fun.

The initial dread of exploration is softening as I'm feeling more confident against the mooks. Gonna have to call it a day and go to work though.

Those ogres with the hammer are really good for parry practice.

Bloodborne sort of rewards you more for being up in something's face more than it is in yours. I played DS3 very conservatively so coming to Bloodborne certainly took an adjustment.

Lot of crap went down. So, my furthest progress is...the Blood-starved beast. Also the beast killed Alfred. Sorry, Alfred!

Will say I'm digging the lore for this game so far. Looking forward to finding Miskatonic University. (I cant remember what its really called)

But screw that mini-gun sniper in old Yamyam. Killed his friend though. >_>

Did some back tracking, found Eileen the Crow. But I cheated because I already heard about her from someone else, and didnt want to accidentally make her an enemy. Feel kind of dumb for missing her. But, now I know a bit more on how to explore in this game.

My weapons are pretty boss. Upgraded my Threaded Cane and Kirkhammer to +3, and I got some dapper clothes from a deas guy. Then a white fog ball nearly killed me. !!! Except for the tall-ass dudes with giant weapons I actually feel kinda OP against non-bosses.

Havent killed Clifford the Big Bloody Dog yet. That'll have to be another day.

- Keep an eye out for non visible NPCs. Open windows, lanterns by doors, etc. Easy to miss.

- Later on you can send NPC to one of two areas. Send them to the church to continue their quest line or to the clinic for items later.

- Serrated weapons and fire are effective against beast class enemies. Even a swipe of a torch can be very useful.

You get insight for finding and then subsequently defeating bosses. So oftentimes, they're kind of tied together unless you're doing like NG+ and have Madman's Knowledge on hand which gives you Insight.
