For me personally I think American Idiot is the best thing either band put out, but Dude Ranch is one of those albums from my younger days that will always be one of my favorites. One thing blink has that Green Day does not is the contrasting sounds of Tom and Mark, both in their very different voices and the clear differences in their writing. I always felt American Idiot was overrated. I mean even before it people used to complain the Green Day was too "pop" to be considered a punk band and I always disagreed with them. Dookie is probably one of the best punk albums ever, however it always gets overshadowed by American Idiot. Case in point: One thing blink has that Green Day does not is the contrasting sounds of Tom and Mark, both in their very different voices and the clear differences in their writing. Green Day used to have Mike and Tre sing on their earlier stuff, and every time they did the songs were always different both vocally and musically from the stuff Billy sang. After American Idiot though the experimentation went away and everything just became generic. --- I am a senior software engineer. I don't care what genre people put the band as, I just like their music and American Idiot from start to finish is an amazing album for me. I remember being in ninth grade when it came out and loving it the same as I do now, but now I understand it more. I don't think American Idiot overshadowed the much better Dookie or Nimrod, and I don't think it was overrated either. Sure, American Idiot was super popular, but it deserved to be. It had a lot of great songs; AND it came out a decade after their last groundbreaking album, connecting with a whole new generation. You have to applaud that. MICHALECOLE posted...
