Kinda hard to be excited. The Wild are so far behind, with so few games in tow. Good offense, but such shitty defense when it matters.

It was fun being first place in the division back in the first week, but I guess the tank is full steam ahead now. Wings are winless in six now and some players have already looked tuned out the past three games. Just need the Coyotes to get some wins and jump out of the basement.

It's not even so much that Kyle Quincey single-handedly ruins your team, it's that having Kyle Quincey on your team means that you couldn't find a better defenseman than Kyle Quincey to be on your team which is evidence of extreme suckitude.

I have nothing to worry about. Dumba will probably make him look like Suter in comparison, because Dumba lives up to his name. Are other offensive defensemen idiots in the defensive zone?

Ok. It would appear the Wild season will be defined this way.

1. Score enough goals that shit defense won't matter.
2. Score enough that the "3 goals leads are the worst lead" rule always happens.
3. Show great defense on the rare nights the offense can't show up.

Now what that means as a whole, God only knows.

Are the Canucks actually going to be good this year? Because I wasn't prepared to care about hockey for another decade or so. I mean I should be happy if they become a playoff team, but I was kind of getting excited about a rebuild.

I feel like within a few weeks we'll see a lot of the teams we expected to be bad turn out to be bad, Vegas included.

It's a mental thing though. Like with Calgary and Iginla. It doesn't matter how much money they're making or how many minutes they're getting. So long as those guys are around, you aren't rebuilding. Period. Might as well trade them when they might still have SOME value...

They have cap hits of 7M for second-line players, they have no trade value. Maybe this was the right move like two years ago, I dunno, but now it's no longer practical.

As far as the franchise is concerned there are two good reasons to keep them around:

-Mentoring young guys
-They're highly popular with the local fans and thus and sell tickets. Hell I'll go to a game or two this season because it could be my last chance to see them play, same as I did in Linden's final year when we were surprisingly terrible.

Not buying the Kings at all tbqh. Very unsustainable high scoring, primarily by Kopitar (not really a scorer, more of a Bergeron type), Brown (not really a scorer, more of a pest), and some rookie who has to cool down at some point.

I blame myself for the Wild's struggles. Every goalie I draft to be my main goalie in fantasy shits the bed. Gibson has been good except he shit the bed yesterday and besides, this year it was supposed to be Dubnyk. I benched him against Chicago which was like his only good game. I'm hoping he can turn it around but....

Last year it was Schneider who I couldn't buy a win with and had awful statistics. I willed my team to 3rd place but I couldn't surpass my awful goalie situation. The year before I did win it all with Quick and I traded for Martin Jones later in the year. But of course Quick lost a good chunk of time last year so I consider it a delayed reaction to being on my team.

Speaking of the Wild, is there a reason Dumba is so widely owned in fantasy? He doesn't really do...anything. He's has the hit/block totals of a forward, he has mediocre ATOI for a defenseman, he's good for maybe 30 points I guess which isn't saying a lot. Good SOG and PMI but really I can get that anywhere. What's the point of him? I only drafted him cause everyone loaded up on defensemen this year and I couldn't get my guys before they were gone.

Hah. I had Gibson and Dubnyk last year and dominated with them. This year I grabbed them again and I'm in dead last lol

Oh I forgot I had Fleury for a couple games this year as well and then he got a concussion and went on IR. My bad on that one.

Dumba has a lot of raw skill offensively and everyone keeps expecting him to become a PP quarterback monster. But it's just not materializing.

Great. The Wild face Carey Price tonight. I'm more worried about the defense though. Perhaps the Habs fall flat and make Dumba actually look good. Boudreau destroyed him in the media after the last game.

Because people don't understand that virtually zero goalies achieve BOTH sustained superior performance over a period of more than 4-5 years AND do so on a team that isn't sufficiently good defensively such that whoever the starting goalie was would achieve similar numbers

Yeah... I never understood why people put so much faith into a goalie after they get a .930ish season. Literally every elite goalie ends up averaging .920 after several seasons and that's fine. I remember last season (maybe the year before?) when there were articles on WHY Price would win the Vezina again before the season even began. So ridiculous.

I mean yeah, last year's results are a great place to start when making your predictions. But goalies often fall off and fall off hard. It was like what, two years ago, when Henrik Lundqvist was considered elite? How many years left on his contract?
