I agree. Moderately fun at times, but it's the one I have the least desire to replay (with the possible exception of the original on SNES - I was never good at that one and didn't latch onto the series until the gem that was MK 64).

The thing that pisses me off the most is that some of the best 'classic' stages like DK Mountain and DK Jungle Parkway got wasted on MK Wii. At least they saved Yoshi Circuit for MK 8.

Nah, Mario Kart Wii had some of the best character selections and the tracks are pretty fun. You get screwed over by items in this game more than past MK games, but MK8 was somehow worst in that regard.

The only negative I saw in MKWii that is preventing it from being my favorite was how online was dominated by Daisy's and Funkey Kongs because they had the best top speed in the whole game.

Yeah, MKWii had a ton of big flaws. You were at a major disadvantage if you used karts, and the item distribution was terrible. The number of blue shells handed out was outrageous, making actually winning a complete crapshoot

This, I was disappointed that they upped the blue shell rate for MK8 Deluxe, but it's still well below MKWii. On regular MK8, you'd usually only see one blue shell every race or two. On MKWii it was probably closer to one per lap.

Ya my grandpa passed away a few years ago and i found an old 64 with a few games. man it didn't live up to the nostalgia. I also remembered how much i hate the 64 controller, especially the worn out joysticks.

MKSC was one of the first games I remember playing, doesn't hold up well today.

Mario Kart 64 was awesome. It's hard for me to play today, tho.

Mario Kart Double Dash!! was enjoyable when it came out. This has my vote for worst, even though it is still a good game.

Mario Kart Wii was the one I've played the most online. I enjoyed it.

Mario Kart 8 is amazing.

I've played the hell out of single-player MK8 Deluxe, and I can say with confidence that the average Blue Shell count is one per race. Occasionally there's two, and occasionally there's none at all. If I've ever seen three in a single race, I can't remember it. I even feel like sniping (which is what I call it when the AI throwing a rapid series of hazards at you to deliberately thwart you, like red shell + blue shell + red shell in quick succession) is down from Double Dash, which was my only real gripe with that particular entry. I honestly can't remember how bad the shell rate was in MK Wii, since the whole game was pretty forgettable to me.

Of course with the new items, MK8 can get more creative about sniping. My favorite is when a Boo steals your hard-earned Super Horn seconds before a blue shell comes in.

I'm not mixing the two up.

I've played both extensively and distinctly remember rarely ever getting hit with blue shells in MKWii and MK8 having them constantly and now even more of them on Switch because of double item boxes.

Also, lightning bolts are just fucking obnoxious in MK8 and 100x worse than blue shells because they delete your items. They ruin the game.

Have you ever considered that maybe you just sucked balls at MKWii, and thus were never in 1st to take the blue shell hit?

Cause you're waaaay off, I'm positive blue shells were at least 1.5-2x as common in MKWii, and I've put 100+ hours into online multiplayer for each title.

That would only be possible if you've never played MKWii. To those of us who have played extensively, it's clear that blue shells come out, on average, at least once a lap, which works out to three or more a race. On longer tracks, it's even more.

Hell, I've had a few races where I built up a huge lead and got hit by 3 or 4 blue shells by myself. And I've seen a few races where there were no fewer than 6 blue shells thrown - although again those extremes happened on longer tracks.

Long story short, you're not only wrong, you're hilariously, laughably wrong.

You're probably just bad at estimating probabilities and frequencies, MarthKoopa. No shame in that. But you want more proof of just how wrong you are?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntDAS91dcmw

Here's a race on Maple Treeway. Five blue shells come out on just the last two laps. So much for never seeing that many in a race, lol. And not only that, there were only seven racers in that match. A match with the full twelve racers will produce at least 50% more blue shells than that!

Again, I don't blame you for being incorrect here, cause it's not easy for everyone to estimate frequencies and the like. But at least own up to it, considering everything and everyone to the contrary. You're wrong, period.

Fine, here's the actual item distribution breakdowns. I didn't want to post these because you're probably going to have trouble comprehending them, @TheMarthKoopa.

https://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_Kart_Wii_item_probability_distributions
In MKWii, you can get blue shells any where from 4th to 9th place. The cumulative probability for those positions to receive a blue shell is 60% per item box.

https://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_Kart_8_item_probability_distributions
In MK8 the item distributions are a little different, but the distance back where you can receive a blue shell roughly corresponds to 4th through 9th, like MKWii. The cumulative probability here is 14%.

14% is much lower than 60%. In fact, it closely corresponds to my and others' estimates of around 1 blue shell per race in MK8 versus 3 to 4 per race in MKWii.

You can't argue with statistics, and it's clear you don't know what you're talking about. Now, would you kindly stfu in light of all that evidence?

This is where you're wrong and where the higher frequency of blue shells in MK8 comes from. Because CPU players 4th and below are always in the same distance groups, they all get blue shells. Doubly so in Switch.

And that 60% you're coming up with is 100% BS. Read the charts again

It's 60% for karts controlled by players, less for CPUs lol. Even for CPUs, you still have a much higher chance of getting hit by a blue shell than in MK8
