I had a bunch but I don't know where they went. Lost in moving.

I bought a bunch used in a bundle ($20) but of course all the good cards are missing where all you can really do is make a bunch of high roll lame aggro decks. So now I'm ordering a $20 new official starter bundle with

" 125 semi-randomized cards
Four 15-card booster packs from recent Magic: The Gathering sets
100 basic land cards"

I also got a bunch of lands and the rest is shipping.

My sister and her friends want to play, should be fun. PotD Skype Magic could be a thing, maybe?

Link? Because that sounds reasonably cheap for a MtG starter, considering that boosters are up to $4 each now.

My sister and her friends want to play,

That's... unusual. The only tourney I went to was a total sausagefest and, prior to that, all of the casuals also skewed almost exclusively male.

While I miss MtG, the game is kinda unrecognizable now with all the new stuff like Planeswalkers, etc. Plus I don't feel like getting into the money-sink again.

6 left. Pretty good deal.

Yeah it really is. When we bought Magic cards from the comic store the guy was really trying to sell us on visiting the weekly gatherings. Obviously because he wants to make a loyal customer out of us and keep his gatherings popular, but also probably because he was probably freaking out internally about a girl possibly joining.

I don't think I'll be buying any cards for anything competitive, just enough to keep things interesting and make a couple decks.

If you compare how expensive this is with something like Hearthstone, Hearthstone is not worth it at all. In HS I can't even share my collection.

You're not going to be able to do anything with that kit. All garbage + 4 overpriced booster packs

Should have bought a booster box and did a draft

Kek. Would probably improve turnout. One girl can attract ten or twenty geek guys.

Granted, back when I played the Pokemon CCG, the gender disparity wasn't all that bad... well, at least not at the first comic shop where I used to play since it was kinda split down the middle. After they stopped hosting, I tried going to the TRU events occasionally (it was Saturday mornings iirc so that was never going to work) and that was more solidly male.

I haven't bought Magic cards since the Time Spiral set. So looking it up, since 2006. I first started playing Magic just before Mirrodin was released. So I played Magic from 2003 to 2006.

I really enjoy magic, but I doubt I'll ever get back into the actual card game. I'd probably just buy the video games on steam. I have one of them and it's ok. Or I could play Magic in Tabletop Simulator. I have before, the controls felt weird though.

I quit around Le-Gi-Ons (maybe earlier) but the only tourney I played was a Planar Chaos release draft years later.

Oh shit, I thought that said 15 packs! Nice catch, order canceled.

I guess we'll just get them from the comic store. They have 3 for $10. That's roughly as valuable as a booster set.

While I missed the Onslaught set, I really liked it cause it has Slivers. I still have my Sliver deck from that set, of course I added Slivers from the Time Spiral set though. I never really cared to keep decks limited to just one set. Although I don't mind it.

My favorite sets were Kamigawa and Ravnica. And those two sets, especially Kamigawa, were the sets I spent the most money on. If I did ever buy magic cards, I'd probably just buy singles to get the cards I always needed for my Kamigawa and Ravnica decks.

I used to love playing Magic. I'm probably sitting on about $30,000 worth of cards going back to Alpha/Beta. Sadly, it's just not worth playing any more. Like so many other things, the younger generation ruined it. I used to get together with people back in the day, and everyone would have unique decks to play. You never knew how the games were going to play out, and they frequently went on for hours.
Not too long ago I went down to a bookstore near me where people get together and play casual. It was terrible. There was probably about 20 people there, most in their late teens, early twenties. Almost every single one of them was playing a modern copy/paste tournament deck they found online. If their deck didn't pop on the third or fourth turn, they got pissy and conceded. I don't think I had a game last more than 5 minutes.

The internet ruined every meta ever. Nothing's worth playing anymore unless you're playing with your friends.

I came up with a ton of cool Pokemon combos and even made an impact on the meta, but at the end of the day it was ruined by netdecking. Brainless scrubs were whooping me with net-teams while I was handicapping myself innovating.

And they always ragequit. Not surprised to hear people have the nerve to do it in real life.

Also their bans were annoying and they had no idea what they were doing. People generally fail when understanding how RNG works, but I digress.

Yeah, all of my decks are my own builds. I have a deck that's a mono black deck, I call it my destruction deck. In the group of people I played with a couple years ago, there was one dude that memorized the sleeves I used for each of my decks so that he knew which one I was using. He really didn't like this deck of mine. It's like a 70 card deck and it only has 9 creatures in it. The best thing about it, is that while it excels at going against non-black decks, it can handle mono black decks as well!

Most of my casual play was ffa group games so the meta was more forgiving when it came to slower-paced and more experimental decks. I mostly enjoyed themed decks whether it centered around a monster type or a combo.

One of my favorites was a tri-color zombie deck where, as a final move, I'd sometimes attack the remaining players simultaneously then buff my zombies with Strength of Night (works like a ghetto version of Overrun, but it's an instant) or two so they'd lose at the same time.

Other than that, I had a somewhat OP re-animation deck which benefited from Dark Ritual to speed up the process, often in the form of a first turn Entomb + Exhume/Animate. The only issue was not having something incredible to use it with, instead settling for Crosis or another meaty flyer.

And, because we were doing group games, a few of my black decks would have a Nightmare and iirc a Blanket of Night. Then, when I was getting into it earlier, I used junk like Cemetery Gate + Pestilence (iirc, which might have had to do with picking up a lot of cheap re-packs of cards years earlier)

I hate this topic cause now I have an urge to play magic...good thing Magic 2014 fills that urge nicely. Especially since I still have a ton of decks that need cards unlocked.
