I watch some anime. Often with my wife. We do like different kinds of anime, but there is some overlap.

Among Japanese people? Kind of. A lot of manga chapters just show up as inserts in a lot of pop culture magazines. So while watching anime in Japan is still pretty niche, because you have to go out of your way to do so, reading a comic or manga in the course of skimming whatever else you happen to be reading is pretty common.
Now there are still dedicated manga magazines (like Shoujo Beat or Shounen Jump), and compilation books (where people just compile several chapters of a particular comic into a volume and resell it), but those are less popular among adult consumption.
