Children aren't reading Mark Twain

I am sure there are still some schools where sjws haven't burned all the school copies yet.

I'm saying that teenagers read Mark Twain, not children.

So in case it isn't clear, I didn't mean for it to be an absolutist statement with no possibility of exceptions.

It is pretty annoying when people give responses like that completely knowing the actual point of the statement. The point being that for most it wasn't until 13-14 that you were assigned or started reading Mark Twain, but obviously there will always be people who did earlier, but you know good and well that the overwhelming majority didn't.

Just erase the character. Not exactly difficult to do. It's not like the caricature made a ton of appearances in Seuss's children stories...

People claiming Seuss was Hitler reborn are hyperbolic idiots as usual, but the request that the racially insensitive cartoon be removed is sensible for the times. Nostalgia isn't a good enough excuse to preserve that thing...

liberal outrage is a result of conservative outrage, and that's why conservatives on CE hate timelines and any mention of cause and effect.

just about every conflict can be traced back to somebody starting some shit over a false sense of superiority over somebody else, lol.

How dare you?!

Pinky, a British white male, is allowed to be offended on behalf of Asian people. If he wants to explain to us all why we must also be offended by Dr. Seuss, then we need to all be quiet and appreciate his progressive bravery.

Pretty sure the depictions were based upon images of the native Africans.

They were very primitive; and compared to the black people you see in the west, are practically different people.

My main point was that they are different, and have some primitive cultures that yes, can make them look a lot different to the black people you see in the civilised world. Dr Seuss drew exaggerated caricatures

I wasn't criticizing their attire, I was criticizing the racist features that Seuss drew for them.

black people have been likened to and depicted as monkeys for centuries by racists, and Seuss followed suit.

and as far as looks go, there are many people throughout Africa that resemble those in the US.

and that example you posted isn't the same as what Seuss drew; that person stretched out their bottom lip, while the figures in those images were given monkey features

it's okay to acknowledge that you like a racist historical figure without making excuses for them.

his images of black people are similar with other racist pictures from the past. you almost wouldn't know that those drawings were of Africans if they weren't dressed in loin cloths

Is it really though? Maybe it is for the 'always offended at everything minority', but screw them - they'll never be content and will always find something to gripe about.

It's literally the chinese version of golliwogs and people said the exact same thing back then ("it's just a childrens toy, what's the big deal you hippies"), so it shouldn't be hard to figure out why that would be hurtful to chinese people.

Maybe you're just taking the "it doesn't offend me so what's the issue" stance?

I googled what that was. lmfao what the fuck!?
