Are there any websites that help you just make a simple resume template? All the ones I've found are way to in depth for my schooling, accomplishments etc....

Thanks

The only halfway decent ones I've found let me build the resume, then (at the last minute) sprang a fee on me. I was in a hurry, too...

Alright I found a simple template

What is the point of the objective? What am I supposed to type there? "My objective is to come to work, do a decent job, make some money and go home"

i dont use an objective on mine. if they want to know why i am interested in the company, they ask for a cover letter.

my resume i have a professional profile - basically skills i have with a short blurb on them

i.e.
Solicited, negotiated, placed, documented and administered contracts of FFP, T&M, Rental, no-cost Bailments, Property Accountability and Level of Effort type contracts.
Led and participated in multiple LEAN initiatives, member of multiple Value Stream Mapping events and Cost Down Initiative teams.
Significant experience in Foreign contracting with both Canadian and British suppliers. Included being Internal Control Plan owner and worked all aspects of import valuation and licensing creation.
Supplier Management representative for CMMI Level 3 certification.
Managed supplier based on program metrics.
First level manager with less than 5% annual attrition rate over 5 years as manager

etc.

I then have professional experience which gives titles, years, achievements/awards and responsibilities

Then I have education.

My master resume is about 5 pages with about 4 pages of that being professional profile which I tailor for the specific job I am applying for, typically getting it down to 2-3 pages of relevant stuff. Professional Experience and education don't change.

Cover letters are about 50% new, 50% recycled from previous cover letters but only about 1/4 of jobs I have applied for in the last 12 years have required one.

Holy shit, you're so much more educated than I am. I worked at a restaurant as a teen and I've worked in a warehouse for the past 10+ years and those are my only two jobs.

But from my googling I've read that the objective on resumes is pretty outdated and you don't really need it anymore.

Have you ever won any sort of awards? Employee of the month or anything along those lines? That would be something good to focus on.

Biggest things on resumes is that it is basically your 1-2 page marketing presentation. You don't need to tell them everything you've done, you tell them what you've done that you think they would be interested in hearing based on their job posting. For medium or larger companies now they are pretty good normally at posting what they want. If you have 1/2 of it you can truthfully talk about, you are in a pretty good position. Feel free to apply to stuff you don't have all the skills they want in the job posting, but mirror language they use.

And yeah, objectives are largely out of fashion. You can have one but reading other people's resumes as a hiring manager, there has never been an objective so good it made me want to hire them, and the lack of an objective has never stopped me from hiring anyone.

Thanks man this is the best advice I've gotten so far! I haven't been applying for jobs unless I meet 3/4's of the requirements but I'll apply for a few more now.
