Being a Florida resident for the past year, it does get my goat a little that so much shit gets dumped on it when a far shittier state sits right to the north.

Admittedly, I only know Georgia by its roadways and its motorists. But both are atrocious enough to forever tarnish the state's reputation in my eyes. Georgian drivers are easily the worst drivers I have ever encountered in my life. I have honest-to-God noticed a distinct drop in the average motoring skills within ten minutes of entering the state, and a welcome uptick within minutes of putting its borders behind me. Georgians have no clue how to merge, and they have no idea what the purpose of the fast lane is. And this wouldn't be such a chore if they weren't so dangerously aggressive. The cherry on top of the crap sunday is the rash of kamikaze crotch-rocketeers who have it in their heads that that those yellow lines running down the road are some kind of bonus lanes.

Atlanta is, of course, the worst for everything, though it could be mitigated if the city had even a half-decent roadway plan. But in what must have been a practical joke gone too far, downtown Atlanta actually has two of the busiest arteries in the country do a criss-cross - if I-75 and I-85 motorists want to stay on their respective roads, they have to weave through each other within a few-mile stretch in an act of choreography that would even baffle a grid of self-driving cars. And this is assuming the freeways are even open; I don't know of many other cities where a druggie can set a fire that ends up collapsing an entire stretch of freeway overpass. And Atlanta's shitty reach extend far beyond the city border: I once got in a 45-minute stop-and-go traffic jam 20 miles or so south of Atlanta, to which the only culprit was a parked flashing sign on the shoulder that said 'Slow Down.' To drive the nail in the coffin, this is the same state that had multi-car pileups and vehicles abandoned on the roadways over an inch of show. It occurs to me that Atlanta is nipping at Hollywood's heels in terms of film and television production; that's quite fitting, because the city embodies all of LA's negatives while picking up none of its positives.

Ultimately I gave it a 2/10 instead of a 1/10 on the slight chance that the state's motorists, roadways and god-awful biggest city are not indicative of the state as a whole.

I'm from Georgia, but it's not so bad. There's tons of fat, stupid, ignorant people. There's tons of rednecks and super country people. There's tons of meth heads and shit. But most of the people are really nice and the weather is pretty tolerable for the most part.

Still way better states out there though.
