Had a Server at a resteruant basically chew me out for refusing to tip her for her sub-par service. Why would i tip her if i had to stand up and call her over juat for to take my order ? If you want your tip you need to earn it.

Am i right POTD?

I kinda agree, "meh" service I still tip for, shitty service I however will not. only time i haven't tipped though I went to a restaurant and the waitress literally never came back to check on us, and I wanted a refill for my drink. place wasn't even busy.

on the other hand if they give stellar service I do give a large tip provided I can afford it at the moment. I won't even order pizza delivery where I live unless I can afford a good tip because I live down a shitty dirt road that until recent history all the local pizza joints refused to deliver to.

I've no-tipped when, in a nearly empty restaurant, my waitress spent almost all of her time talking to the only other table while neglecting mine and then once when my waitress forgot to put the order in, which resulted in another 20-30 minute wait. In both cases, they were lucky that the only thing I did was not tip, since I could have also had a nice talk with their manager.

I mean, I think there's a pretty rigid social obligation to tip regardless of shitty service because of how unfair their payment system is. If they were openly hostile to you or something I could see not tipping, but based on the situation as you describe it I'd just leave a subpar tip rather than no tip at all.

what about simply not doing their job like in my situation. I don't hand out free money. unless I actually sympathize with the person

and also where I live atleast its true waitresses get paid below minimum wage but if their tips don't equal it out to at the very least minimum wage the employer has to equal it out.

Let the tip fit the service. Was the service nonexistent? No. Therefore the tip should not be nonexistent. The service was shitty but existent, ergo that's what your tip should be.

Last time I went to IHOP, I had kind of a long wait time, and I never got some things I paid for. I still left a tip. But I'm kind of a doormat.

she brought us our drinks and that was it. barely worth whatever her actual pay rate is. as I edited my post to say. if tips don't make their pay equal minimum wage where I live the employer has to cough up the difference.

I refuse to reward laziness. as said I was pissed cause I wanted a refill on my drink. after what I ate I was quite thirsty

That's different then. If that's true then what you did is excusable.

Personally, though, I would leave something like a penny because that's more insulting than no tip.

I nearly always tip, but one time I had absolutely abysmal/rude service at a mexican restaurant that was not even busy, so not only did I not tip the waiter but I paid with my card and wrote "CASH" on the tip line.

You have to go above and beyond to get a tip from me. Not just bring me my food/drinks.

It's not my problem that you agreed to a job making less than minimum wage.

I probably would have had I thought about/had a penny. i was really close to getting up and going behind their station to get my own drink though. but the people I was with decided it was time to leave right as I was getting to that point. same place when I was much younger my mom had actually done that before so I knew exactly where the machine was if nothing had changed.
