no, cant make it happen. my eyes are pretty shit but not as shit as some people itt who "see" black/blue

It's got nothing to do with your eyes, it's an optical illusion which tricks people's color perception. The people seeing white and gold are the ones being tricked by the lighting. I've literally seen it as white/gold before and seen it fade back to normal. The black/blue people's brains correctly adjust for the lighting situation and see it plainly, the white/gold people don't adjust for the lighting, which throws off the color completely somehow.

its got nothing to do with lighting

That's how reflections work on black material, not to mention it's a grainy photo, The parts being hit by the light take on a golden/brown hue, but that's all it is, a reflection in a grainy photo. The people accounting for that see it how it literally is in real life, black and blue, while the ones who don't account for it somehow perceive it totally incorrectly. It's just an illusion, no need to get upset by it.

I see Blue/Black/Gold. I'm guessing the dress itself is blue/gold and the lighting is making the gold parts look mostly black.

The thing is, it's not entire black in that picture nor entire gold.

It's undeniably blue though. How the fuck do you see white ANYWHERE

That's how reflections work on black material,

This is wrong. A reflection generally cannot hit an entire surface at the same time/evenly and illuminate all of the black -- making it look gold. There are a few exceptions to this rule:

1. Flat surface (ex:side of a cube with no texture). The dress is obviously not a flat surface.
2. The reflection is smaller than the surface area. Which wouldn't make sense since the entire dress would be lit judging by the picture provided.

My point is that if there was black somewhere on the dress, part of it would still remain black. While the other parts would illuminate and become gold. Not the case. The entire dress is "gold".

The couple of times I managed to see it as white and gold, it looked drastically different from the black and blue I normally see. Seeing it slowing fade back to normal was kind of freaky. When I was seeing it the other way, there was literally no hint of black or blue, it was actually white and a pale gold. So it's easy to see why some are reluctant to admit it's just a mind trick.

It's not hitting the entire surface, you're just stuck in the wrong perception. If I hadn't seen it myself as white/gold a couple of times I wouldn't understand how vastly different each perception is. It is literally black in the photo, you just can't see it yourself. I know it's difficult to wrap your mind around, but that's the fact, the white/gold people aren't perceiving the correct colors.

what do you mean? are you saying that the picture itself is magically wrong? remember, we aren't talking about what it looks like irl. we are talking about the colours displayed in the picture. is science wrong? is the entire IT industry wrong? are you saying that colours of a specific hex value are in fact not that specific hex value? because thats what you are implying by disagreeing with me.

There is black in the image, you're just perceiving it as entirely gold because of the lighting and graininess of the photo smudging the colors off a bit. Ask anyone of the people who sees black and they'll tell you it's right there, in the photo. It's the part you guys see as gold.

Nope, I'm saying the clearly orange/yellow lighting gives the whole photo more of a bronze tint, which the flips out the white/gold people's perception. Account for the lighting, you'll clearly see blue and black, don't account or the light and you'll see white/gold.

I can understand how people might see the black as gold. But I have no idea how people get white from that super distinct blue hue.

I used to think it was like one of those "dirty mind" optical illusions where the image you saw could easily flip depending on how you looked at it. But I ended up giving up understanding when a friend insisted that he saw no difference between the og photo and a photoshop that made it explicitly bright white and shimmering gold.

While I can see the blue nearly approaching white in the middle picture, it's still blatantly light blue. I cannot fathom how people look at the base picture and see white at all.
