The book didn't even really kick off yet and Pennywise is already described as a psychopath. I mean I'm still in the intro technically, none of them have returned to Derry yet but they're on their way and Mike is going through his journals and talking to Old Man Ripsom as he tells him he heard his dead daughter screaming and laughing in the pipes and then a legion of voices was taunting his wife.
In the miniseries Pennywise wasn't even half as dark as he is in the new movie --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Well yeah it was a tv miniseries it couldn't be that dark.

He didn't need to be.
Tim Curry's performance was fantastic, making him more dark for the sake of it would be awful. Like those Mortal Kombat fans who complained that the movie was bad because there wasn't enough gore. As you read through the book you'll realize that the miniseries is much more accurate to the book than the new movie was.
