So the eSports organization at my university has a weekly tournament on Friday and I enter and usually do pretty good. Typically, there are about 25-30 entrants and I have come in 5th twice and 7th once in the three times I've entered.

Tonight, I won in both doubles (Solio and deLish as the Green Team) and singles (obviously as Solio). Played as Mario, who is my main, up until Loser's Finals, and then I switched to Bowser. Tried Mario again in Grand Finals, but it wasn't working so I went Bowser again and took the tournament with Bowser. Won $25 (small beginnings but we'll get there lol)

Absolutely crazy feeling to be honest. I've been playing smash competitively for two years now and over the past few weeks (since I found the smash players at UTA) I've been leveling up big time. I took out four of the university's best players in a row in loser's bracket, and I finally placed in the money and finally took a singles tournament. Like, it's not a huge tournament and there wasn't much on the line, but I absolutely love playing Smash competitively and it's just awesome to come in 1st.

Also doubles was pretty sick. My doubles partner is deLish - or as everyone at UTA calls him, Ish. He and I usually play as Luigi (Ish) and Samus (me) in doubles. We were doing fine with that until we faced our Winner's Finals opponent. I switched to Marth in Grand Finals set 1, but although the games were closer, we were still losing. So, down 2-0 and on the verge of elimination, I switched to Mario, and Ish and I played Mario Bros. in doubles. Ended up getting the reverse 3-0 to reset the bracket, and then took Grand Finals on game 10. Pretty stressful, but really fun games and really awesome to take doubles like that.

I also am the first UTA student to actually win the UTA weekly tournament in quite some time, so that's pretty cool.

The first one is just so good. Its a feeling you never really get to recapture unless you win something completely over your head or like a major or something. It really is a glass ceiling that will open you up to winning a lot more, because youve experienced it and everything that went in to it. Good job, keep building on this. At some point in our lives Ill play you online.

What were the MUs that made you switch to The King in LF and GF?

So, Ish (my dubs partner) sent me to loser's in Winner's R3, and I ended up facing him again in Loser's Finals, but I hate Mario vs. Luigi for Mario. Every time I try to combo at low percents, I have to settle for a weak punish of 16-20% instead of the normal 30-35%+ Mario combo. If I don't, he nairs me and I get set up so that he can combo me instead. So I just do down-throw to up-b and leave it at that. Also, the neutral game there is so not fun lol

So I switched to Bowser to take out his Luigi. Ended up winning Loser's Finals 3-0 without even losing a stock.

In Grands, the guy played Sheik. So I tried Mario, got 2-stocked, and then I was thinking "I really need to make every opening I get do a ton of damage." And I thought, out of my arsenal, Bowser would do it best. He can take hits from Sheik and live for so long, even though he also gets combo'd really hard. His pivot grab practically creates openings when they don't exist because of how ridiculous the range is. The up-b OoS can punish a ton of stuff regardless of if your opponent crosses up your shield or not. So, it just worked. I'm sure Mario has a better MU against Sheik than Bowser does but the Mario wasn't working lol

He ended up switching to King DeDeDe game 3 after I evened it up 1-1, but I beat that too so he switched back to Sheik.
