Welp, there goes any hope I had of having a great single player action/rpg game set in the Star Wars universe... Their excuse is complete bullshit too.

"We found that while players liked what Visceral was making, because it was a single player campaign we couldn't figure out how to implement microtransactions to force players to pay or grind for many hours. So we pulled the plug."

As a huge fan of the first two Dead Space games, and someone who was looking forward to their Star Wars game, this is fucking sad. I hate the way the games industry is just becoming a clusterfuck of full retail games that offer no new ideas, but slap DLC and microtransactions to try and make a quick buck. While the new and exciting games get squashed before they get a chance because greedy execs want to squeeze out as much money as possible from every title.

Why did Disney have to give the rights to all Star Wars games to EA of all people. :\

These companies are greedy cucks
Most of the sequels they put out could be DLC, but they release a new game, split the user base and then no one plays the old game anymore

I remember reading what the Dead Space series was supposed to be like, and then feeling sad because you can tell when EA started to get their greedy fingers around it.

As sad as that is... It's EA. They're the vampires of the video game industry. Taking young, virginal, and blossoming companies before embedding their fangs and sucking them dry till they're withered and worthless husks, then tossing them aside to roam the night for their next victim. This happened with Bullfrog, Maxis, Bioware, and now Visceral.

I never played the Dead Space games but I know how you feel.
I'm still pissed at EA ever since they killed off Westwood and how they neutered their Command & Conquer series afterwards.

Fuck EA.

Honestly a Destiny clone in the Star Wars universe sounds pretty cool but yes this is still awful.

Not explicitly. The actual quote is "It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design," which in industry-speak means "we don't want to invest money into a game that players will finish and move on from instead of playing indefinitely and feeding us sweet sweet microtransaction and DLC revenue."

Hell, if you go back even further it happened with Origin as well (Makers of Ultima and Wing Commander). Now the corpse of Origin has been violated so badly everyone thinks of the shitty PC client anytime someone says "Origin" rather then the company that made the video game RPG series that inspired pretty much every JRPG.

But yea, EA shutting down development studios is so common nowadays it is almost never a surprise. I can see Criterion being next if Battlefront 2 is a flop.

What's interesting is that you can pinpoint the exact moment Bioware gave up the ghost. Namely the end of Chapter 1 of Dragon Age II.

Don't forget Westwood, as much as I'd love to forget Command and Conquer 4...

^what don't you understand. there is a monoith that makes you crazy and deforms your body into an alien spiece. You know the classic Space Odyssey thing. Monoith that controls all life forms. Pray to the God that litterally makes you insane.

I got that much, I meant more about the details of what the characters were doing and why.

I don't remember the plot at all, but I seem to remember there were like two separate crazy monoliths or something? And I'm pretty sure I got betrayed at some point in the first game for reasons I didn't understand.

It's been a long time since I played, I just remember not knowing what the hell was going on most of the time other than the basics.

Dead Space was amazing. I always felt disappointed by the Micheal Bay route the Resident Evil games took at the time, so it was nice seeing a game build up this creepy desolate atmosphere that it put you through. There were a lot of little things in that game that really set the mood perfectly, and the combat was fun too.

Dead Space wasn't that bad, but Hardline was a trainwreck, and that was their last big thing. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did.
